Marriage supper of the Lamb

Postby beckrl » November 25th, 2009, 7:39 am

How do you view the Marriage supper of the Lamb?

In Revelation 19 it tells the marriage of the lamb then tells of those that are blessed to be called unto the marraige supper of the lamb.
Given reference to the fowls that come and gather together unto the supper of the great God.

Revelation 19:
7Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. 10And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 19:
17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

The marriage supper of the Lamb. Verse 19:1 says, "After these things I heard, as it were, a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven", and verse 7 continues, "...for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready". Then verse 9 says, "And he said to me, "Write 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" After this, Jesus returns to make war with the beast (19:11-16).

It is at this time that the angel tells the birds to "assemble for the great supper of God" (19:17). (The Greek word used here for "assemble" is a passive tense meaning "gathered by another, someone other than those who are being gathered".) In this context, the great supper of God also appears in Ezekiel 39:17-24; here it is called God's sacrifice. This sacrifice is being done for every kind of bird and for every beast of the field. It is interesting to note that instead of man sacrificing animals to God, God is sacrificing man for animals.
This "sacrifice" or "great supper of God" would seem in context to be the same as "the marriage supper of the Lamb."

So how would anyone of you view the marriage supper of the Lamb?
What is to be on the table?

My assumption would be that it's metaphoric in the same manner as the Lord's supper. That it would be a great supper of mankind. Revelation 19:18-21

Not in the same context with the "marriage supper of the Lamb". With last part of chapter 19 verse 11 beginning he speaks of the destruction of the wicked and evil. The first part of the chapter speaks of the saints of God. The second part speaks of the destruction of all the forces and leadership of evil men. The details I don't know and I doubt anybody else here does either. Some things no body will know untill the right time, and when the time somes then just about every body will know.

Just a personal thougth, I think that all the foul and beast that is spoken of here is really to let us know of the greatness and totalness of this great battle. Just imagine the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORD as He comes in great power with TOTAL POWER OVER ALL OF THE EVIL OF THE WORLD. Praise GOD! Praise God! Praise God!

Do we agree that the Marriage is metaphoric? We would also conclude then that the Marriage supper is metaphoric! Would we not?

Given in a metaphoric language Jesus is spoken of as having a sharp sword coming out of his mouth [the Word of God]. With this sword He and his army slain the armies of the world that come against them.

The call to the fowls of the air to gather together at the great supper of God.

If we look at Ezekiel writing we can find the same language used to decribe an event were the fowls and beast gather at the sacrifice of God and that God has "filled my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord God"Eze.39:20

It would seem that this great supper of God and the marriage supper of the Lamb would be metaphoric the same event.

The Marriage Supper in an event that is going to happen. So no I don't agree, but I can only speak for my self.

Given in a metaphoric language Jesus is spoken of as having a sharp sword coming out of his mouth [the Word of God]

That sword is the "Word of God".

Heb 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Re 19:21
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

I don't know the hows but I know that God spoke and creation happen and He can speak again and destruction can happen.

It would seem that this great supper of God and the marriage supper of the Lamb would be metaphoric the same event.

beckrl, these are two difference occasion, One deals with the Bride and guess, and the other deals with the destuction of evil after the Church is taken away. (RAPTURE). One deals with the righteous, and the other deals with the unrighteous. So there can be no comparrison in this sence. Not in the metaphorically way and not in actuality. One is of the results of the rapture and the other is sometime after the rapture.

Eze 39:17
And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
Eze 39:18
Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
Eze 39:19
And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
Eze 39:20
Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
Eze 39:21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
Eze 39:22
So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

BTW there is a different guess list in the Ezekiel 39 and Rev 19:11 and following list. These are unrighteous.

How do you view the marriage then? I take that to mean our relationship with Christ, in a metaphoric way. I also take the marriage supper to be metaphoric.

Yes, the sword is the word. Again I see this as metaphoric in that the word will smite the wicked.

Any thought on why "Marriage supper of the Lamb" and not marriage supper of the bride of Christ?
Eze 39:17

Only showing the use of metaphoric language:)

Just a thought........is it possible that through the infinite wisdom of the eternal God, and given the fact that God also gives discernment to those whom He will through the gifts of the Spirit, that there could be metaphoric language within the same text of the same chapter or several verses apart with literal language? I mean couldn't something like the marriage of the Lamb to His bride be metaphoric but at the same time the supper of the Lamb be a literal event? If not, then why not? How far of a gap must be maintained between the two?
I assume everyone here believes that there are both literal and figurative language throughout the scriptures? I guess my question is how far apart must these two forms of conveyance be from one another? I hope I am wording this right. :) Must they be separated by entire books of scripture, or by chapters, or by mere verses? I don't pretend to know the answer just trying to stimulate thought.
