Some may have . . .

Postby TW » December 1st, 2009, 7:15 pm

noticed that I haven't been on the forums much of late. some may even recall that I have been house hunting for the last several months. Well, hopefully this is the end result of that search.

Image

It's a three bedroom (one of which will become my office/den/study/library), one bath home with a screen porch that is located in Lafayette, GA. It has a nice level yard with enough room behind the house for me to build my shop.

I thought that I would like to share this with my J2 family.

Good deal, TW!!! I'm excited for you, bro. What do your work/study plans include??

Dolfan,
The first step will be the conversion of the bedroom that shares the common wall with the living room. That will include built-in book cases which will also house pocket doors to close the office off if there is a need for privacy. One section will feature my Bible collection and related study material. Then I have a set of plans for a roll top desk that I acquired from a company out of Minnesota named Rockler Woodworking and Hardware. Sorry, had to get a plug in for these folks, if your into woodworking they are people you want to know. I have modified these plans so that it will house my base computer and routers. When the desk is closed you will never see the computer, it will be totally out of sight. I am considering building a Murphy bed into the opposite wall in case there is ever the need for additional sleeping arrangements. Down the road I will add a Chess Table and a couple of chairs. By doing it this way and housing the pocket doors in the book case I will only have to cut a 64" hole in the wall as opposed to a 128" hole, then having to re- frame the entire wall.

TW, you're a genius.

Will you make your own tambour for the roll-top or use pre-made tambour panels?

Congratulations! Retirement is great, isn't it? Do you have family near Lafayette? You'll have to share all your projects with us after you build your shop.

PG, I will be making my own tambour as most of the pre-made one use fabric strips glued to the back of the slats. This places the pivot point at the back of the strip, which if fine if you are only dealing with a single arc. However the design that I have chosen has the more aesthetically pleasing S shape with opposing arcs. Fortunately for me the good folks at Rockler sell a set of router bits that cut the exact profiles that I will need.

He forgot that his priority should be to get a guest room ready for me so that I can come enjoy cooler weather in August and/or September (if I can ever afford to take time off from work).

Update:

Postby TW » December 4th, 2009, 11:36 am

If everything stays on track the Closing Date will be Jan. 9, 2010.

It's hard for me to believe that after the nomadic life that I have led, that I will be a home owner. That almost makes me "respectable."
