Rednecks can make fine German cars

The C-class Sedan will be manufactured in Vance, Alabama (near Tuscaloosa) where the M-class is already made.

The real question is whether or not Germans can make redneck cars?

I love it that those cars will be made in Alabama now. I remember when Mercedes picked Vance to build the M-class plant. The NYT ran a comic making fun of the choice with a toothless hick in an old beat up pickup with a Mercedes hoodpiece. So, guess this just confirms that good cars can be made in the south by southern workers educated in southern schools. Alabama has a very well positioned and excellent training infrastructure for automobile manufacturing and engineering, and it runs statewide. Mercedes was a big part of that happening, and now we make or assemble all or part of not only Mercedes, but Hyundais, Hondas and Toyotas, and before that for many years made steering components for GMs and other companies.

Even if we do dip snuff, skin bucks, run trotlines, etc. (Maybe we even beat Florida this week!!! :wink: )

Dolfan, do you know what the average wage of an employee at Mercedes-Alabama is?

I don't, but it is apparently enough to get workers to build them.

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

According to a newspaper article from November, 2008, the average weekly wage for an auto worker in Alabama is $1,302.00. I don't know Mercedes specifically. When I Googled it, though, on the very first page of the search, your post appeared. :lol:

Well they either make around $20 per hour with weekly overtime or they make very good money.

Just checking because NISSAN here in town pays their employees well and always have but has been turning to temporary workers that make as little as half what regular employees make.
