Why not? Almost every other denomination does.

For Sure!!!

The Naz. isn't a whole lot larger than COGOP is now and we have a LOT of colleges/universities world wide. I don't know the exact number, but I think it's more than 25. And, they aren't "small schools" like TC was. Several of them have HUNDREDS of students.

So, why can't COGOP have several, as well.

tc online has been a very good thing. it has been supported. maybe we are a different church now. i will say this, those that screamed and cried when it was closed should be the first ones to step up and send funds. if that happens it will be supported by others. just a thought.

I could be wrong but I think the Bible teaches that.
If I were to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for business. I do the very best I know how, the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out right, what is said against me won't amount to anything. So how many pastors on this board would financially support a new TC with funds from your local church? Would you actually receive an offering or budget funds each year to go toward a church college?

did God say it was an error?

knowing only from reading the history of my chosen church, I do not see that it was a error. in fact, I am not convinced it is a good idea to reopen a physical presence.

Hey dbserv,
I went to Northwest Nazarene College (now it is a University) back in the late 80's. It was a highly accredited school for those wanting to become teachers. Good school, about 2,000 or so students then.

As for TC, when it was operational, what was the degree of choice? was it more of a seminary for those wanting to pastor in the cogop or were there other areas that brought students in?
Let the wild rumpus start!

Paully it was a two year college at that time. Though I was a lot older then most at the time, one of the most known person that was at TC at the time will most likly be Tim Colter, boy was he a blast.

If I'm not mistaken the problem was a bad investment and the Chruch didn't have the money to keep operating the school and maybe some of the church its self???? Not sure on all the details as it been a long time.

Will say that I value my time at TC and can see how it has help me today.

What amazes me is the veiw points of those that where not there then, not a member untill the last few years, or even born any where near that time.

Everything wasn't perfect, but it was good for the church.

My dime
God Bless

The error I spoke of was not of God, but of man. Btw I never went to TC.
But even with some of the teachings back then in which degrees could be received they closed it.
It was may understanding that to be able to have a college that give credited units or degrees was something good for the church and hard to come by.

Now after closing it and losing that credential years later some would like to reopen the college. That to be seems to be the error, losing those credentials.

There have been many things that were asked to be funded, but the college. I always though it was a great discipleship tool to the minister.
My 2 cents.

Re-opening a Church college

Postby Phil Hoover » December 14th, 2009, 10:11 am

is one of the most BONEHEADED things I've ever heard...

I'm an alum of the now defunct Tomlinson College, and I think it is a TERRIBLE idea....HORRIBLE even.

1) The international church didnn't support the school back then....no reason to believe that a "small denominaton" (in the US at least) would support it now.

2) Accreditation takes a LONG time. A VERY, very long time.

3) Hiring qualified faculty in the various disciplines will be a chore in and of itself. Qualified people will not work for the "pennies" anymore that many were willing to work for back in the day. I know of one particular faculty member that taught full time and worked two other part-time jobs just to support their family. That is a horrible reflection on the denomination..

4) Who would do the recruiting, and and make sure the "college" was actually offering programs that are needed and wanted by the future students?

IT is a BONEHEADED idea.....worse than horrible.

It is only a bad idea if it is run EXACTLY like it was before. It is not a LOST cause to be willing to take the time to be accredited.
Second COGOP is much larger then COG was when they started LEE university and larger then many churches that have universities.
They would need to set up a program to make sure it gets support before it opens. There are plenty of people in COGOP that are smart enough to make this work if it is the Lords will.
Teachers and Business men/woman...it is a business like anything else and there are plenty of both oin COGOP!
