Does the Bible predict the rebirth of Israel???

Postby Russell Roberts » December 27th, 2009, 6:39 am

Yes it does. Read this passage in Isaiah.

66:8 Who has ever heard of such a thing?
Who has ever seen this?
Can a country be brought forth in one day?
Can a nation be born in a single moment?
Yet as soon as Zion goes into labor she gives birth to sons!

Jesus alludes to this very passage when he compares his disciples to a woman in labor. You see, Jesus took on the role of the Nation of Israel. He called himself the 'True Vine' (a well known metaphor for Israel in the Old Testament. Taking on the role of Israel, Jesus went to the cross and rose from the dead. His resurrection constituted the rebirth of the nation of Israel. According to Paul, his resurrection is the fulfillment of Psalm 2 which declares "You are my son! This day have I have become your father!"

See how that works?

Beckrl, the real rebirth was at the resurrection.

In Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus, notice in verse 7 that Jesus switches to a plural 'you'.
'You all' must be born again - speaking to St. Nic as a member of the Sanhedrin.

It was necessary for the whole nation to be reborn.
