What does your mascot (the elephant) represent/stand for? Been curious for years but never ask anyone.

Thanks!

You best put on the "whole armour". Either that or duck.

Years ago, the sideline mascot was actually a red elephant. It was.....just abysmally ugly. Big Al, the sideline elephant now, needs a meaner and less muppet-y look. Fun to sit in the student section and help Big Al ascend the stadium mosh-pit style, though. First time I got to do that was at the 1994 Alabama-Georgia game, which was absolutely electric (Eric Zeier was UGA's QB, and Alabama posted a 4th quarter comeback and finished the regular season undefeated that year, losing in the SECCG to UF).

Alabama people are unique when it comes to this..

While doing a mass email promotion to a clients database in Alabama.. several of the "Out of office - Replies" would read

"I'm sorry I'm out of my office until XX, 2010 etc."
Then...

"ROLL TIDE!"

Just out of the blue.

"Roll Tide" is a way of life. Obsessive? Oh, sure. But, if you live here, you either love, give into it, or hate it. There's really not much in the way of neutral ground. It is the banner heading on my cell phone. We greet people and say "bye" to people with it.

Oh, and, um.... Roll Tide!!!!!

I must make a few comments about the game. I am a Vol fan but we also want to see all the SEC teams win their bowl games. That includes Alabama and I congratulate the Tide for their win. It was a win but it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was down right ugly during the 1st quarter. They appeared disoriented and what an embarrassment letting the kick off fall on the live play field. It looked sloppy but did improve only after the Texas QB left the game injured. I am glad Ala is the national champ but I don't see how they can be proud of the win. Really, Ala or Texas did not deserve the national title......Tebow & the Gators did!

I agree with you on this part: "It was a win but it wasn't pretty", but I guess you see the Florida game, where Alabama soundly beat them. Tebow (and I like him) couldn't nothng. Florida got beat by Alabama.

Roll Tide
God Bless

Wins don't have to be pretty. I like to see "pretty" football, don't misunderstand, but the only thing that counts is the final score. The NC game only keeps a score, not a beauty rating. Polls score on beauty, and that's the problem with not having a playoff. Records don't keep up with "deserving". You might expect to see a category like that in soccer, though.
