I see dawg. What do you think they mean by 'well drunk''?

They drank too much grape juice?

i can drink water freely. the translation has nothing to do with what they were drinking. it has to do with how long they had been drinking. the sticking point to your position.

a few of those commentaries listed actually say, (not intoxicated).

Ok, I'm just trying to clarify your position dawg.

Is it your contention that they drank too much watered down wine?

i am saying they had been drinking a eating which i do at every meal. they ran out of drink and Christ made more out of water. it has always been my position that wine with alcohol content high and very low is in the Bible. it is my position that alcohol was used to clean the drink before they took it in by drinking. the intent in many cases including this one according to many commentaries that says (not intoxicated) was not to get drunk.

ok,

It looks like you are saying that there was high alcohol content wine and low alcohol content wine in the bible. Is that what you are saying?

just like drinks today i am sure there was. but taking many commentaries word for it they were not drunk. so understanding that they had been drinking all day this was not wine that had a high content of alcohol. just thought i would beat you to the punch.

This is why we are told to be not drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. yes there was wine that they could get drunk drinking. and were told not to. humm.

assuming that the feast takes days, it could have been longer.

Ok, so tell me why they normally served the good wine first?

The Steward of the Feast gave the reason. How do you read that?

So you are going to hold to your belief that the reason they served the good wine first is that important people would have come to the party first despite the fact that the steward of the feast STATED otherwise.

If that's the case, I don't think our dialogue will make any progress (I've pretty much discounted that possibility anyhow).

But I am still curious why you would disagree with the explanation of someone who was actually there. I presume that you have found someone who is more familiar with the customs than someone who lived in that culture.

i am not debating what he said. you have saved the best for last after we have been drinking for a long period of time. or untill we are full. (not untill we are drunk). we have come down to the fact that translated they Drank much does not mean they were intoxicated.

Just for the record, here is a sampling of various translations.

NET ©
and said to him, “Everyone 1 serves the good wine first, and then the cheaper 2 wine when the guests 3 are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!”
NIV ©
biblegateway Joh 2:10
and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
NASB ©
biblegateway Joh 2:10
and *said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now."
NLT ©
biblegateway Joh 2:10
"Usually a host serves the best wine first," he said. "Then, when everyone is full and doesn’t care, he brings out the less expensive wines. But you have kept the best until now!"
MSG ©
biblegateway Joh 2:10
"Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you've saved the best till now!"
BBE ©
SABDAweb Joh 2:10
And said to him, Every man first puts out his best wine and when all have had enough he puts out what is not so good; but you have kept the good wine till now.
NRSV ©
bibleoremusJoh 2:10
and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now."
NKJV ©
biblegateway Joh 2:10
And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"

A translation that interprets the meaning as 'getting intoxicated' or inebriated is not as infrequent as ye suppose.
