The nations were conquered by the Soviets. Are you saying the South has been conquered by the USA? I suppose the argument could be made.

Is yankee used as a slur?

Yes. The North invaded and conquered a Confederacy of Sovereign states. It even installed it's own government officials and officers, by force, in these states ... giving the appearance that the leaders of the states themselves instituted the new constitutions, re admittance to the Union, and cooperation with "reconstruction" efforts of the federalists. The Confederacy and/or the States comprising it are then actually occupied by a foreign power as such as Kosovo, Georgia, & Lithuania were by the Soviets.

As to the term Yankee ... No, I didn't mean it is a slur, though if the actions and character behind it's use in a given context demand it, I suppose it is full worthy of the descriptive.

Call me a yankee then even though I was raised in the south, I would rather be a proud American then to believe that we are slaves...sounds like another argument about people and past crimes yet equal rights are there......what are you not getting that the north gets.

There is no wonder the media paints this image of republicans... no disrespect but man I am shocked.

let me add if anyone does call for war with the north then they need to be tried for treason for the insanity they presented. That was the most horrific and bloody war in our history. The south was not all innocent either....

I actually know the history, my point stands chris. This sounds crazy. Did the south have to go to war? Did Lincoln want the war? I admire Lincoln he actually did all he could to end that war and never wanted it. It caused him great depression. He actually went on the battlefield and was almost shot. He would take care of soldiers in the white house.

I also know the argument for the south however it has all created a great nation. The best in the world. If they were not united we would be nothing and surely conquered by now. After the civil war we began to be the greatest power on earth.

Guys the health care sucks... but the people (south included) voted these people in. we must live with it. Not look at the past like this or accuse him of not being a citizen......... The system is the best in the world. THEY WERE VOTED IN BY THE SOUTH>>>>>>> think about that.

After 9-11 if you lived in hampton roads you could not feel this way as we watched our military prepare for war. Every car had a flag and when you saw the military passed by preparing horns were honking and cheering for OUR NATIONS SOLDIERS. Not the south... not the North but the nations.
I am not uneducated I just grew up in a different world then you i suppose and I respect that. I am in NC now and it is very different. I still see some hidden racism that i am not used to. BUT NC VOTED for OBAMA to....

Dude, this has NOTHING to do with racism.

It has NOTHING to do with not respecting American ideals.

You don't get it. You don't understand, and you are not as well versed in the history and politics of it all as you think you are, friend. Subscribe to the blog. I might just learn you a thing or two. :P

Hey one love, this is not really related to the thread topic but you said a few times that Obama was voted in by America so we have to live with it. Sadly I agree. But many democrats try to use that way of thinking to try to show that America "overwhelmingly" supported Obama at the polls. Well lets look at that for a sec.

Somewhere close to 131 million people voted in the 2008 elections. Roughly 69 million voted for Obama, roughly 59 million for McCain. A difference of 10 million is definitely alot but not what I would consider a landslide. 52% vs 45%, so roughly 7% difference. Like I said, alot for sure, but not exactly a landslide.

Does that necessarily mean that the "majority of American's" support Mr. Obama? Not when you consider that roughly 208 million American's were eligible to vote but only 131 million voted. That would mean that 77 million eligible voters didn't let there voice be heard, sadly.

Now sure, those folks should have gotten off there rump's and went out and voted to let there voices be heard. But hopefully now, after this administrations blundering around, those 77 million will get out and vote!

I was just trying to show that just because Obama won the popular vote doesn't mean he is overwhelming popular. :)

Because of the things you say, the way you frame them, and the conclusions you embrace I really believe you d not truly understand, but rather are schooled in the federal brainwashing that has been foisted upon Southern people since the reconstruction.

You think I should learn a thing or two is pretty insulting..... you questioned my intelligence, politics all in one.....

I'm sorry you took it as an insult. I don't question your intelligence. But yes, I suppose I do question your politics. I question their constitutional and historic validity. I question there divergence form American ideal and principles of liberty as enumerated in the Charter, the Constitution, the writings of Jefferson, etc. Yours and anybody else's who buys the federalist "Yankee" line, and/or accepts the tyrannical, oppressive, unconstitutional exercise of power of the current federal government.

Truth is your ideas will never happen and if they did chris america would fail in less then a year.............

Your entitled to that opinion. It may not. We may never reform this federal government, and reign it back in. Short of that, our people may be so lazy, disinterested, and gullible as to not care to protect, defend, and declare liberty by means of secession. You may be right.

We may have waited too long, and become so addicted to federal control and entitlements that we can no more change than a strung out addict.

We may have even lost our will to fight, if necessary, to be free of tyranny, and to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our children.

You may be right, but I pray not.

If America fails, and we be free of it, then it is likely no concern of mine. I would they not drown, but better they drown in their own demise alone, than take the rest of us with them. Let the leftist, socialistic, Federalist crackpots have their defiled 'America'. Give me liberty.

If America falls, and we be yet tied to it, I would use my voice, and spill my blood in her defense -- in order to procure freedom for my people, state, home, family and way of life ... & would gladly join in arms to repel invaders.

It is dividing you are blinded to that fact by being biased.

Blinded? No.

Biased? Not in my estimation, at least not in any blinding way. Biased againts federalism as it now exists, against the lie of "Civil War", the oppression of a free people, and the systemtic crippling of their way of life, their time, their treasure, and their diginity? Yeah, I'm biased.

Divisive? Only to those who have swallowed the cunning fallacy that preserving the Union meant forbidding the peaceful secession of states and the existence of the Sister nation of the Confederate States of America. let the Union admit that and give the South the right to chose, and we might stay (as we would have done all along). Otherwise, divisive indeed -- right around the mason/Dixon line as a matter of fact. :D

Let me add I was raised in the south. Virginia beach/Norfolk is different because of the many cultures because of the military etc. but I thank God for it. It helped me keep a Unbiased opinion on north /south/ color of peoples skin/ differences of cultures and nationalities etc....
None the less all the great southern leaders that I admire have statues of them all through downtown Norfolk and Portsmouth. To be honest their is civil war history all through the seven cities, more then you could imagine.

Here it is I do not live in the past, our nation is great because we are ONE nation. I believe in the system our forefathers laid out in the constitution and the way we vote as well. We lost. The government owns most of the business of the world now, Banks/car man./now health care.
I do not like it and we can VOTE them out. Your idea would destroy America Chris, seriously you can doubt my intelligence, politics and my intentions but the truth is I want a conservative government of AMERICA not some nations within America which you have to know would be a disaster.

I am a realist, I am a opportunist, business man and a TRUE patriot. Not of one or a few states but all of them.

As far as Virginia I have personally met GOV Bob McDonnell he is a great man. My closest friend I have had since the 4th grade are very close friends with him and actually was a MAJOR part of his campaign especially fund raising. I am telling you with out a doubt he would never go with this. He will most likely be a candidate for president in the near future whether 3 - 10 years he is being scouted.

I differ with you because America would fail to exist and communism would rule the world. Our country relies on the entire nation, it has nothing to do with a lack of politics or education. I live in the here and now and the real world. I will fight in the polls fore what is right not for something that can never happen without violence, division of states North and south and YES it would be war and the world would use that to destroy us. Conservative ideas can be voted in Chris we do not have to split the nation, It makes you wonder what are our troops fighting for. New york is liberal but does that make them all liberal? Are they bad? should they not be in our nation? come on Brother, you can continue to insult me which is really degrading coming from a friend but we can agree to disagree. I want change that would be a GOOD thing. The civil war is the worst thing that I think happened in our nation. Shame on Lincoln for wanting the union to stand.

Again the south was robbed and their state rights arguments were sincere and true. Not to mention they were not excited about Lincoln either nor his slavery thoughts. The south did not fight because of slavery they wanted state rights and the ability to have the states run themselves and not have the federal government control them and they were right. However the larger we are the better and guess what different opinions are great that is how our nation came to be.
This reminds me of the nation of islam that want America to give all black people their own land and for us to support them until they can support themselves. Then the nation of islam would feel they have received retribution for the evil that happened hundreds of years ago, your argument sounds very similar.

I find it sad that they had to sneak him into Washington to be inaugurated because they did not think he would live because of the south.

I am offended in this sense: Liberals call us dumb ignorant rednecks and that is how I feel you are talking to me because I feel we need conservatism through the voting system....

I am sorry I even gave a opinion, I love you and forgive me if I offended you...

Kevin,

I don't how, but you are sorely misreading me if you think I'm trying to denigrate or otherwise be derogatory towards you or your opinions. I'm not. Differ with them? Yes. Argumentative about the underlying issues of the war between the states (NOT a civil war, and really the war for Southern Independence)? Absolutely.

Do I think your stupid or dumb? No.
Do I think your wrong and misinformed? Yes.
Please don't confuse the two.

I love ya man. I have no desire to mistreat you. I respect your right to your opinions, even if I do not agree.

BUT, when it comes to Confederate heritage and Southern Culture, well "I'm a good Ole' rebel. That's just what I am."

And, if it comes to secession and preservation of liberty, I'm gone bubba. :P

God save the South!

if you want to edit any of this that is fine I added a few things..
I am a southerner and A AMERICAN I see no other way, no dividing because of ideas.Misinformed not at all, I just think what you are saying would be a disaster. I am not sure Of any facts that I have said that are untrue but none the less.
I am glad Alabama has the right to have interesting ideas such as yourself. I am also glad that Blacks are not slaves either (i know that was not the cause or reason for war at all) I am glad the KKK does not hang people as they did in the past and that we have come so far as a nation. One being that a Black man was elected president. I disagree with him and want him out of power but we have come a long way TOGETHER.

YOU SAY "GOD SAVE THE SOUTH"

I SAY GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

See the difference????????????????????????????????????????//

Federalism is dead from what I can tell. The secession of states before the Civil War was about federalism AND slavery. Right process (federalism), wrong cause (slavery), and worst imaginable result. I don't care to relive what should/coulda/woulda about that time. All of it is so much guessing. What I do know is that (1) my sovereignty over my home and family is under immediate and unprovoked threat from the Federal government of our nation; (2) yours is too; (3) secession of our respective states from the union of states may be the ultimate way to break the yoke of Federal power.

I say this unequivocally: I am opposed to our Federal government. Period. Not just the liberal Federal government now constituted by Democrats, but the "conservative" one bungled so badly by Republicans. There is no Jeffersonian Democrat anymore, and no limited government even Reagan-Republican anymore. In fact, I'm coming to a mind where the small-government talk of Reagan was more useful for speech-making than of actual governing since the very people who surrounded him have presided over the large-government Republicans that we have known since Reagan. The closest to his vision that we've ever been, Congressionally, was the 1994-1998 Gingrich Congress. Since then, and particularly under Pres. Bush, the government exploded in scope. So, it is just a simple matter as I see it. The government is way too big and we are way too disjointed to combat it. We'd be better to divide (secede) and conquer the beast that way, IMO. If there's another way (and, remember, third parties can't get it done -- so the Republicans remind us every day, and they're probably right), someone tell me.

All this winds back around to the one final point that sums it all up: The civil government is evil by nature; there is only one legitimate King and one legitimate Kingdom. Any other way is the wrong way, no matter how well intended or how brilliantly conceived.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

Agreed!

I simply address that as born out of my passion for Southern culture and heritage. My blog gives me the chance to engage both my historical interests, and my political ones, in a complimentary way. Plus, establishing the justness of the Southern cause, in context, lays the groundwork for secession as viable and constitutional today. Many people simply deny it is possible because of "Civil War" mythology and Lincolnian/federalist rhetoric. Until you get them past that they probably will not grasp or embrace Jeffersonian principles.

BTW, I've often toyed with the idea of a new political party called the Jeffersonian party. Not sure if it would catch on as a viable 3rd party, or perhaps replace a defunct version of either of today's prominent parties. But I'd be more apt to associate with it.

In truth, the Constitution Party is probably more or less the embodiment of that. So, I've leaned strongly that way. Still, I'm not 100% with them on every detail of their platform.

However, I seriously doubt the ability of political reform within the system. I think secession is not only the more attainable means to that end, but the most direct. Still, some effort at reform or redress should proceed formal secession. But now is the ideal time to act. Now is probably the most opportune time for a peaceful uncontested withdrawal than any previous, and perhaps any forthcoming (IMO).
