Poimen, your funny man. I think I rule my house quite well, but to "let my wife or not let my wife" is something I have never had to consider.
I'm just messin with ya bro.

Well, thank ya. I try. Although, on this point I was dead serious. :?

I think I rule my house quite well,

Oh, I'm sure you do. I wasn't trying to cast any dispersions towards your performance as the head of your house at all. I'm sorry if it came across that way.

but to "let my wife or not let my wife" is something I have never had to consider.

I hear ya, but then that (silence, or cooperation) is the most common form and function of "letting". Letting need not imply dictation, unless something specific is being addressed, and that usually as a negative. For instance "Dear, I don't want you to join that if they insist on you wear clothing we find questionable." Otherwise, our silence is more or less consent of their activities. Silence is letting.

I'm just messin with ya bro.

Well, it worked!

I wonder if the producers of the show would make an exception for religious convictions. It happens for some other things! Could be worth checking into..?
..I press on to take hold of that

ok, I never have watched the show, what is it that they are doing that one would have to pull the religious convictions card?

On the show they do weekly weigh ins of extremely (sometimes morbidly) obese contestants to determine how much weight they have lost. Those weigh-ins, on camera, are done with minimal clothing, as the idea is to clearly show the body morphing taking place from week to week, without any artificial support garments, any foundations, any whatever... and they want the audience to SEE the fat going away.

Men wear shorts and no shirts.
Women wear shorts and essentially a halter-top that looks like an unstructured sports bra.

Those, like Poimen, who hold very strict views on modesty and apparel would find that objectionable. I think if I held such views I would find it equally objectionable to WATCH the program, but that is just me.

I'm sorry. Your use of the confused emoticon after your sentence gives me the impression of inquiry.

Though I do find it objectionable, my biggest peeve with it here, and what I was addressing with my original comments, is that the show makes no provision for religious convictions of those who feel such is inappropriate attire for public viewing, irregardless of the "transformation" factor (unless they've changed that rule since we checked into it awhile back).

Furthermore, generally speaking, my views on modesty may be strict by current social standards, but not very long ago the social standards themselves, never mind of the church, were much stricter than mine. Just a couple of generations or three even. Besides, I try not to base my standards on social norms as much as Biblical principle and precedent. Then I try to apply those in light of social norms.

I don't claim to be perfect at it, one way or the other. But that's my goal. Else wise the morality of modesty becomes moot, being alterable, and more or less dispensable, based on the changing whims of society and generation. Since the matter is addressed in Scripture, making it have universal and ongoing pertinence, I just don't buy that.
