dawgs, paying off the National Debt is not going to solve the problem. It would in actuality make the situation worse. We, and most of the rest of the world, now function on a debt based economy. Under a debt based economy model the only way for the economy to grow is to create new debt. Most of our wealth exist as entries in a ledger or on a computer. Very little actually exist as printed currency, only enough to conduct the day to day cash transaction of the nation. If a debt is retired for any reason; default, forgiven, or repaid, that money is removed from the system (deflation). Deflation tends to erode confidence in both the lender and the borrower so the economy goes into recession. Should further confidence be lost then it becomes a depression. Paying off the debt might sound like a great idea, but given the realities of our economic system it isn't. We need to return to an economy that is based on currency that has real value, such as we had when we had the Gold Standard.

Oh, and by the way there are Federal Excise Taxes on Alcohol:
Beer $0.58 ($18.00 per barrel)
Wine $1,07
Spirits $13.30 (per 100 proof gallon {50% alcohol})

Taxes based on 1 gallon volume.

and where does that tax money go. thats the issue. and as far as inflation, you have fliped out if you think a balanced budget is bad even with inflation. the fact is we dont need to stop helping the person that needs help. we need to pay the debt off.

Dawgs, was the economy thriving under Clinton?

Did you know that the Republican led Congress cut taxes and Clinton signed the bill? How on Earth did the economy boom so with lower taxes?

people paying taxes should have nothing to do with the economy. there has always been taxes and there has always been ups and downs in the economy. pay your taxes and love people.

dawgs tax revenues are linked directly to the economy. When the economy is depressed tax revenues drop. There is a twofold reason for this. First income taxes drop because of the lower amount of personal income earned. Secondly, people spend less in a depressed economy so sales and user taxes also reflect the tighter money supply. We cannot afford to continue on the road the government economist placed us on in the '30s. A debt driven economy is doomed to collapse at some point. We need to return to an economic system where the currency has real value, not a credit value.

( Sorry weekends I unplug as much as possible. Great Fathers Day! )

This above quote is akin / equal to.. to saying that Church Tithes also have nothing to do with the Economy. If jobs are slashed from high taxation mandates, donations will instantly suffer. If our economy nosedives and people have to take a cut in pay.. the church donations instantly take a cut also. You can draw so many life lesson analogies here.

Again.. this just shows the ineptness of understanding outside of ideology.

Furthermore.. to arrive at this ideology you would have to hold the belief that regardless of their shrinking economic realities ( salary reduction, unemployment ) your Church People would still have access to untold reserves of cash... just stockpiled... eagerly topping previous donations.

Ummm, right now... with all your government programs... half of one percent of this country controls 56% of the finances here.
