Ask anything in my name and I will do it.

Postby beckrl » June 22nd, 2010, 3:10 pm

Why is that so, I ask in Jesus name, but don't receive what I've asked?
Sounds simple enough, I guest many have come to this conclusion that it has to mean something else that "any thing" we ask in the name of Jesus will be done.

Well, it first should be read in context of what Jesus is refering too. Here he speaks that he was to leave and the Father would send another Comforter that this Comforter would abide with us forever.

That the works that we should do, be greater that the works of Jesus.

Mark 16:17-18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.

But more over Jesus told the mulitude that believing in him is the work of God.

John 6:28-29, Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent

1 Cor.12:7-10But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame

So it not just any thing that we ask, but in context of any thing of the works of God.

I guess that new muscle car is out of the question.

Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Maybe not! :)

Would that be reference of any of these scriptures?

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them.

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us

Could it be that we ask out of performance instead of paternity?
Did Jesus operate out of performance of paternity?

I fine that many at lest in the past missed understood that passage and tought that God would give them "any thing" if they only asked in the name of Jesus. Well, that is what it says, but not what it means, one has to read the context.

The Comforter is the same, he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, shall he speak.

We should not think that the Holy Spirit is here to serve us, it is the Father whom he hears, and the will of the Father.
