What about the people who really CAN'T help themselves at this point? What about the single mother of multiple children who is single because her husband has a midlife crisis and leaves her??? Should she not be entitled to some sort of government assistance?? Or should we just let her and those children starve to death and go without medical care? If the children are small enough (Pre-schoolers, let's say) then the mother might be stuck in a spot where it won't pay her to work.

The system is broken, my friends.

by the way hi :D this is my first post 8)

The single mother situation: been there, done that (or my mother did and I was one of those kids). Entitled? Nope. System broke? Yup. Government is never the answer. Never. Without fail, whenever the government steps in to finance living, government creates a culture of entitlement that overwhelms the will to work. Government does not assist; government enables failure and dependency.

The church of Jesus is the single and only legitimate authority for the distribution of wealth to the poor when it comes to Jesus' admonition of doing "unto the least of these." The government is an institution of the fallen with no hope of eternity, is destined for destruction, and is the least equipped and least competent to address any --- ANY --- matter of eternal importance. Feeding the hungry, caring for the fatherless, widows and prisoners and sick --- all of eternal importance.

i wonder how many people gave more to their local church than they paid in to taxes last year. if you did not, would you? if no, then how will the church pay to feed the hungry, care for the fatherless, widows and prisoners and sick. we have to remember that in the book of acts they gave all they had and shared everything. if your not willing to do that then how will the church do this. the fact is its a cop out. just say what you really mean. i dont want to pay taxes for anything other than maybe defense. because that makes you feel safer. or maybe to schools. but not to the schools that have a low GPA because they are not doing their job right. never mind the fact that they are more than likely poor schools with mostly minority students. so just say what you mean.

Dawgs, I agree with you that "in the book of Acts they gave all they had and shared everything. If you're not willing to do this how will the church do this." That's perfect. Spot on. I'll tell you what. Let's me and you organize a church. I'm not joking. You start in your house, I'll start in mine, but we'll do it "together". Both of us will tell everyone we know simply what Acts 2:42 said and what the followers of the Lord demonstrated in the NT church. Each of us and our folks in joint prayer will commit to taking every penny we have (and I realize that we all have debts and stuff we can't just walk away from, but we'll take whatever we have after our debts are paid and we'll instruct and teach not to incur new debt at all) and putting it into a common pool. From this pool, we'll all determine what our needs are --- which will have to be redefined over time as we learn Christ in a radically new and selfless way --- and we will take from the pool only what we need and we will take care of the families in our little gatherings. We will work to fund each other's needs. We will take on a Christlike character that takes it as an ordinance to be obeyed and a non-negotiable necessity of the faith that we esteem each other's needs greater than our own. We will institute, prayerfully and with the power of the Holy Spirit (which even this non-pentecostal fellow would expect to see poured out in ways that neither of us could ever have imagined) New Testament-informed checks on receiving funds without working and contributing, so that the truly needy would receive help and the truly able would be sustained while providing it.

You've said it can't be. I say it can be. I say it must be or we're all really just playing around.

I'm not copping out, Dawgs. I simply want out. I want out of this grid of deceit, this grid of illusion that purports to be stable, productive and peaceful which is really less than a house of cards built on thin air of digitally "existing" money and debt-as-growth-engine. I want the security of living in and for the church. I want all Christians to abandon the lie that is the order of our world and to unmercifully unplug from it and rebel against it. Let the dead bury their dead.

ok, you and I do that and it wont replace the fed. if every christian does it maybe. the fact is its not gonna happen. do you know that tithes in a average church is paid by about one half of Christians and in many cases less. most churchs see about 20% of the people support the whole church with their 10%. Christians are not giving. and they dont wont to pay taxes according to the right wing. so what to do.. if only.

Then, it is an intractable problem. We're left to arguing the philosophical merits absent the influence of Christian belief. Christian faith either applies to and governs the whole thing or none of it. Selective application is worthless.

To cite Jesus' admonition to feed the hungry, etc. and to bootstrap that commandment to governmental "oughts" and the rights or obligations of citizens is as valid as saying that Satan himself ought to obey God's commands. The kingdoms of this world are as antithetical and opposed to Christ as the great adversary himself is. One can be no more Christianized than the other. Or, are we left to thank Satan for not attacking us more fiercely?? As I see it, that's the choice you're giving us, Dawgs.

Since Christianity has no place in this manner of conduct, because by our own admission this manner of conduct cannot be redeemed (indeed, the Bible we both read and believe has destined it for destruction and judgment), we have to consider it (if at all) by some other interpretive grid. I trust we'll never agree which ones to use. All we're left to do is insult the other's choice. And what has the potential to unlock the greatest power ever lived and known is cast aside because we're enslaved by the one who is apparently and practically even greater than He that is within me....the United States Government.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

here is what we agree on. if christians give like we are challenged to give
the church would have a much larger influence in this world. dolfan, i am not saying that its you, and i know its not me, but the fact is many Christians dont give to the church or any other area. they spend on themselves and live large.

Liberals vs Conservatives

Postby Pastor Gary » June 28th, 2010, 12:32 pm

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat..
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal screams for the government to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that talk shows they don't like be taken of the air.

If a conservative believes in freedom of religion.
A liberal believes in freedom from religion.

A conservative may disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
A liberal insists laws be passed to make it illegal to say what he disagrees with.

If a conservative sees people in real need, he'll probably see if he can help them personally.
A liberal will try to get the government to set up a bureaucracy between himself and them.

My point? Nobody is stopping anyone here from giving all they own to the poor. Go for it. Set the example.

That's right Pastor Gary, 100%! If all the liberals or as dawgs calls himself, a compassionate conservative, would go ahead and give out of the goodness of there heart then go ahead and do it. Set the example for others to follow.

Don't try to increase taxes or force others through legislation to to take there money by force if necessary. That's the liberal for ya. :)

none of that means anything if you are speaking of the new testament church. so if its the churchs responsiblity why are overseers and leaders and pastors and convention leaders or what ever you want to call them not preaching it. give all you have, help others, feed the hungry, care for the sick and dieing, the widows, and orphans. the merrygoround keeps a turning!!! no one wants it taken by the gov. but are you willing to be the new testament church!!!!

Dear Mr. Dawgs:

I am an Overseer and Pastor. I preach and teach (and try to model) living simply so that others may simply live. My church is involved in prison ministries, homeless ministries, sponsor more than 30 Compassion International kids, volunteer at the food bank, take part in charity walks and give to needy individuals and families when we know of needs we can meet. We have given money, clothing, furniture and vehicles away.

You, sir -- if you ARE a sir -- are all talk. I post here with my real name and photo, and you snipe and gripe behind the safety of a pseudonym allowing you to be a troll with no accountability.

Put up, or shut up.

Dear Overseer and Pastor, first of all I know what positions you hold. i have been very impressed by your ministry and the way you carry your self. i have contacted you on face book and jude 2 through pm. i view your services online as much as i can. i am the assc. pastor of a Church of God of Prophecy in Georgia. i do not snipe or gripe. i defend an idea. an idea that is not popular with many. the idea is we are blessed to be a blessing or to give our blessings away. I dont think anyone should have to pay unfair taxes, i just get tired of hearing people whine about it. And yes i am a sir. My name is Pastor Stephen so to speak. many on this forum know me. in no way have i ever challenged you personaly. i try to speak in generalities. i am asking the question, does churchs preach this gospel at a level that is needed to do away with fed. help. i dont think so. there you go sir, you called me out and i hope that answers your question. but i dont think that i am wrong by saying i will not vote on a party line because i am a Christian or a Social Conservative. i am proud of my back ground in a church that i love very much and has been good to me. You want to know about me. i left a job making 5 times the amount i am making to go into ministry. i work with the boys and girls club that pays very little because they are a non profit and money is tight with non profits so i understand. i do this so i can minister to kids and to help support my family while i enter into full time ministry. thats where my heart is sir. that does not make me special. some would say that makes me crazy. but the fact is thats what God called me to do. so now you know me. I am a gun owner. i hunt and fish. i think you should work (if you can) to provide. i think that lazy people that wont work should not eat. i have never voted for a democrat. i have a wonderful wife and two daugters. i want them to have a future but i dont think you should put those that are old out in the street to secure that future. i can go on and on. when called out i tend to do that. with all do respect and honor to you and your ministry.

Thanks for the response. I think you hit a raw nerve with me with "so if its the churchs responsiblity why are overseers and leaders and pastors and convention leaders or what ever you want to call them not preaching it" -- since I am one of the few on Jude2 who falls into those three categories, I took it as a reference to me.

Glad to meet you Stephen! Really. When Jude2 started we - somewhat idealistically - intended it to be unlike other forums with blind usernames. We wanted a place for real people to express their ideas without having to shield themselves, and I appreciate you coming out with more ID.

We probably agree on many more things than you think.

I am a gun owner. i hunt and fish. i think you should work (if you can) to provide. i think that lazy people that wont work should not eat. i have never voted for a democrat. i have a wonderful wife and two daugters. i want them to have a future but i dont think you should put those that are old out in the street to secure that future. i can go on and on. when called out i tend to do that. with all do respect and honor to you and your ministry.

dawgs, you should express a few of these idea's in some of your posts because you would seem far less liberal left. :) Nice to know you more Pastor Steven.

none of that means i plan to bow at the feet of the tea party or support any thing that would hurt those that are retired and stuggling to secure my future or my childrens. those that want to work but cant. so dont cuddle up to close unless your willing to admit that the tea party hasnt said much that would make those people feel good about anything.

I have never been to a Tea Party Rally, and, from what I have seen on TV there was a pretty diverse crowd with a variety of issues... anti-Obama, anti-Tax, Pro-Border Enforcement, Pro-Flat-Tax, and a few of the kind of crazies that show up at any public protest (and some pentecostal churches).

The common element I saw was people in terror of what the nation they love is becoming. I earned the right, as a Vietnam Vet, to say I did not put on a uniform and serve in the struggle against socialism and communism just to sit by and see us surrender the country to those ideologies one notch at a time.

Wow. I sense the Spirit of Poverty at operation here. This is where the anger is coming from. You left a job making 5 times to go into the donation ministry? You left a job that could have SUPPORTED your God called special ministry programs to now being at the mercy of a donations to operate? No wonder you are angry and now abusing/accusing others.

Did it ever occur to you that God placed you in that higher SALARY position to use you right where you were?? Do you think that it's because you have heard the call of God wrong and followed what an organization has told you.. you must do... rather than like David did... see what God really wanted?

Wow is this the same guy that thinks the South is speaking in racism code words? Is this the same guy that thinks the US Constitution is a racist document? Is this the same guy that wants Govt. GIMMIES at the expense of our future generations ( your precious daughers overwhelming tax burden )?

It's becoming more and more clear now. You missed it my friend and now the anger is overtaking you. Instead of blaming accusing other for your LACK... go back and see where God really wants you to be. You were once a proud provider and don't be afraid to think outside the box on your special ministry. Listen to these words.

God Bless your journey!!

trust me on this one mac you have no idea what your talking about and have stepped over the line. i have no anger. i am right where i am suppose to be. just tired of hearing people cry a river. i will not throw people out into the streets to secure anyones future. you notice i said i think you should work if you can. those that cant should be taken care of by you and i. and i am not living in poverty just because i am not making what i once did. thats the neat thing about following God, he will take care of you. i have the same home and drive the same cars and do alot of the same things. one reason is because i never lived beyond my means. I have no Lack as you put it. i am still a proud provider. i provide for my family with Gods help. You mentioned a spirit of poverty. I sense a spirit of you dont have any idea what your talking about. I dont have to agree with the right wing extream or the left wing nuts to be right. i respect Pastor Gary. I cant say the same about you.
