Keyboard Not Working Correctly...

Postby Mole_J » October 26th, 2010, 6:36 pm

My laptop keyboard has not been working correctly for almost 8 months now. I remember getting shocked pretty bad and then my keyboard starting acting weird when I pressed some keys.

For example this is what I get when I type p I get "4680" Backspace key give me "wrtuo]" the period key gives me "zdvn".

I bought a USB keyboard and I have been using that with no problems since I starting having trouble with my keyboard on my laptop. This lead me to believe that the problem was with the keyboard in my laptop.

I bought a new keyboard to my laptop thinking that would fix the problem. I put in the new keyboard tonight and still having the same problems with some keys. Some work ok others do not. Most of the time programs start opening and closing on some keys. Especially Micro$oft Media Center.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to fix this or am I better just continue using the USB keyboard? I am debating if I should run it by a computer place and have them look at it.

By the way it is Micro$oft Vista on an Acer Aspire 5630-6288 laptop.

I'd try WD-40.

When we were in college, I worked for Rent-A-Center. A "retired" VCR came back into the store. I looked up the money that unit had made, and asked the manager if I could buy it. I did, for $30, which in 1993 was dirt cheap for a VCR. After a few months of use, the machine started making a horrible whining noise when you put a tape in it. A screechy-squeaky sound. It would play fine, but when you inserted tape, you got the noise.

Anyhow, I came home one evening and put in a videotape. My wife was somewhere else in the apartment. The machine ate the tape. I pulled it out and.....it was covered in this oily stuff. I mean COATED in it.

I knew immediately what it was.

"Lesley! What did you do to this thing?"

"Nothinnnnnggggg????"

I laughed. "This ain't nothing. What did you do?"

She grinned, really sheepishly, "Well, it was squeaking, so I put a little WD-40 in it to stop it."

"It worked," I said.

I took it apart. I found the problem --- a tiny little rubber belt on the motor that runs the arm out that places the videotape against the head. I removed it, and went to AutoZone, found an O ring about the same thickness and diameter, and....voila! And, yeah, it took me three forevers to get the head cleaned from all the WD 40 that had been sprayed onto it.

As we now know, science has proven that WD-40 fixes everything. My grandmother swore that it helped her arthritis. I've heard that told many times by many people. Whatever!

Couple of things you can try.

First: just press FN and NUM LK
Second: Try hitting CTRL and Shift at the same time. key combination that would toggle a scrambled keyboard.
Third: Press Function-Inster (Fn+Ins)
