How do you vote?

Postby Paully_44 » November 2nd, 2010, 10:35 am

not meaning party line, but physically. When I was little I remember going with my parents to the polls at the local Catholic church.

When I was in college, I registered for a mail in ballot and have been doing it that way ever since. I believe that today, we are 100% mail in ballot state, or at least we are for our county.

i like it. I get my ballot a few weeks before the election and it is usually back in the mail within a day or two.

First, I vote my according to the values I hold dear to me. Physically I have voted by mail in ballot for several years. several times I have been out of the country on election day but was still able to voice my selection. I love it.

and preserving yourself.

Paper ballot with broken arrows by each candidate's name. You connect the arrow with a pencil to cast your vote for that candidate. Slide into the scanner/ballot box.

horrific digital voting machines.

My wife and I write various code all day long and you can change that stuff in an instant. If not me.. a hacker can remotely CHANGE those things in an instant. You can make default preferences and cause untold chaos.

I've voted four different ways and all here in Florida. I've done touch screen computer voting, fill in the oval with a pen and insert into box, fill in oval with a pen and insert into electronic reader, and (the best of all), punch out the perforated chad with the stylus. (You know, the ones where the dems couldn't figure out how to punch the whole chad out...yea, that one)

We have touch screen ballots. as you voted and pressed the next page it would print the choices on a what looked like an old adding machine roll of paper that was behind clear glass. You could see it but not touch. I even thought it was an old dot matrix type printing process..

touch screen and dot matrix printer.. :)

I've only voted mail-in. I wish I knew what it was like to actually go to the polling place and cast a ballot.

Always been pleasant experience

Postby darylscook » November 5th, 2010, 4:40 am

I have always voted in person and it has always been a pleasant experience. From a teenager connecting the arrows with a pencil to turning the levers in the delta to using the Diabold Ipads today. There have been a few times when it was a long line; Never over an hour wait. Everyone was in a good mood talking about weather. Great time to be an American!

kind of what i was getting at. I have good memories of going with my parents as they went to vote. I remember being so anxious to become 18 so I could register and go to a voting place.

Now with it strictly mail-in, my kids dont get that.

On the flip-side, they do get to read over the ballot and see what it is like to vote.
