"Serving Paraguay" is the Ministry started by my son Shaun Morton and his wife Sara to change the lives of abused, abandoned, and disenfranchised children in and around Itagua, Paraguay in South America. They currently have 30 children living on the ministry grounds with room for up to 70 more with current facilities. This month they opened a Christian School as well. The school last year was a poorly ran public school. Their registration is 100 children. Up from the 70 that were enrolled in the public school last year. Their dream is to win the lost and raise up children who will one day evangelize and lead their country in ministry, education, and public affairs. A dream that is possible to see fulfilled since it was birthed in them by our awesome Father!

Shaun and Sara are members of the Peerless Road Church in Cleveland, Tn and both have graduated from Lee University with Masters Degrees. They have 2 children, 4 year old Abigail(Abi) and 9 month old William Samuel(Sammy).
They have been in Paraguay for 2 years, previously having served a year at "Hope of Life Ministries"("Esperanza de Vida") in Guatemala, primarily building, teaching, and ministering in the orphanage there.
They, their staff, and ministry team are currently exhausted from their efforts getting the school opened. I covet your prayers for them and their ministry there.

They are definitely looking for groups to come down. I'm not sure what their schedule is like, but I am sure that they would answer you through email. They are really interested in young people getting the "mission bug" by learning first hand how the rest of the world lives. I definitely think it brings a new perspective into the lives of our youth where "all for me" seems to be the trend, even in the church.

Man, y'all, the link Pastor Gary posted a couple of weeks ago to the place in Alabama that trains people to build primitive shelters, water supplies, cooking primitively, etc., for mission purposes seems like a great place to get some experience in preparation for missions. Seems like that would be a place to train without the same risks for a really young teenager; then again, if God is calling who else can we trust?? I say that in the relative "safety" of my daughter being only 7. ....

Hello Everyone,
I hope that this email finds everyone doing well. Shaun and I wanted to send a little update to everyone and say THANK YOU for your continuing support. Since returning to Paraguay from furlough, we have been seeing some amazing changes not just in the children in Hogar GANAR, but also in some of the families of the community that are sending their children to our now private, Christian school.
In the attached update, you can read a little more about the home and school. We are thrilled to be able to feed the 65 community children that are attending our school along with our 30 children from the homes. Many of the children do not eat well in their homes and both the children and their parents have been so grateful that we are not only offering uniforms, textbooks, English classes, and quality teachers, but that we are also able to help them feed their children. Each of you has been a part of making this happen and we want to say THANKS.
Our children in our three houses continue to grow and mature in amazing ways. They are learning more and more about the Lord and we thank Him for that. To listen to our children pray is an amazing blessing. Each week in our church service with the children from the homes, the children give prayer requests and pray. They are learning what it means to present their needs to the Lord and they have great faith that the Lord will hear them and respond. In so many things, He already has, and they are thanking Him for his provision. I was sick a few weeks ago and Shaun mentioned to some of the children in House 1 that I was not feeling well. When I went to the office the next day, I saw Lujan from House 1 and she asked me how I was feeling. I told her that I was much better that morning and she said, "You know tia, that is because I prayed for you." How wonderful that these children who had no concept of a loving God or a giving Savior such a short time ago are now fulling embracing the Lord and not only that, but they are learning to love and trust other adults!
If you are interested in helping us find more people willing to support the ministries of Serving Paraguay, please let us know. We would love to involve more businesses and churches in a partnership to serve the children of Paraguay.
Please be in prayer for the finances of the home. The dollar here has fallen from nearly 5,000 Gs/$1 to 4,000 Gs/$1 and we are needing more sponsors for the homes and school. Also, continue to keep each child in your prayers. Many are having a difficult time overcoming their past abuses and learning to trust the adults that are now caring for them. In our school, there are several families that have serious financial and spiritual needs. Pray that the Lord would lead us to help them in the best way that we can.

ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) -- Dengue fever is raging in Paraguay, with 13,000 patients crowding public hospitals and 18 deaths this year.
Deputy Health Minister Edgar Gimenez announced Wednesday that all elective surgeries are being suspended to free up beds, and that the public health system wants to hire 2,000 new doctors and nurses to help respond to the epidemic.
It's unfortunate it took deaths to make people eliminate standing water where dengue-bearing mosquitoes breed, he said.
There is no vaccine for so-called bonebreak fever, which causes strong pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. With many patients getting treatment privately, more than 20,000 are thought to be infected overall, said Health Ministry official Ivan Allende.
Paraguay's toll is already higher than in all of 2007, when 17 died of dengue. Last year, Paraguay had 15 deaths, and in 2009 and 2008, suffered no dengue deaths. Neighboring Argentina has reported just one case this year, and dengue infections are down 37 percent in much larger Brazil, where 51 people died and 155,613 cases were reported in January and February of this year.
All three governments have dengue prevention campaigns, especially in subtropical areas where mosquitoes spread more easily. Last year, Brazil's dengue cases jumped 90 percent and deaths nearly doubled as dengue strains spread to where people lacked immunity. Exposure to a single strain of the disease helps create immunity to that particular variant, but subsequent infection by a different strain can cause the sometimes fatal hemorrhagic dengue.

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayer support.
I just received word this week that things continue to go well and that God continues to provide. One constant need is in finding reliable, trustworthy, Christians to fill mentoring rolls as well as workers for the needs of the property. Please pray that God will send the right people. Just this past week they had 1 bull and 3 cows stolen. This is taking food right out of the mouths of babes. It appears that the person hired to care for the animals was involved.
God continues to move in the lives of the children as they continue to learn who He is and of His great love for them.

Paraguay is now in their winter season. This is a very hard time for the poor there. Good reliable heating is basically too high in cost. The houses are built with high ceilings due to the extreme heat during the summer months.
Last year many lives were lost due to insufficient ventilation and exposure/hypothermia in Paraguay and other parts of South America. It seems that this year the temperatures have started out lower than in seasons past. They have already had more nights with frost than in all of last year on the grounds of "Serving Paraguay".
Please pray for the people there and that "Serving Paraguay" will have the ability to offer more help to the communities surrounding them this year.
