Summer Camps

Postby darylscook » June 15th, 2011, 10:30 am

I became the Camp Coordinator of MS last fall. We just finished the Mississippi CoGoP Summer camps. I think our camps turned out great. All of our camps were up in campers. We had a total of 35 more campers this year than last year. Our Website is http://www.KampKumbaya.com

We have 4 camps.

YAK (Young Adult Camp) 18 - 35 Are You MAD (Making a Difference)
Senior 14 - 18 See No, Hear No, Speak No
Junior 10 - 13 Just Keep Swimming
Explorers 6 - 9 Catch the Fire

How about the rest of you. How did your camps do this year? or When are your camps. Ours Start pretty early. Our YAK is Memorial Day Weekend and then we go from there beginning our next camp on the day our last camp ends. It make for a busy 3 weeks!

Curious, what does YAK stand for? Washington St has a camp for that same age group and we too have named it YAK.

Our camps start this coming Sunday, with Sr camp first. We are still in school here until next Thursday, and I have a bad feeling it will play into our camp attendance. My son is taking all his finals this week after school just to be able to go to camp.

YAK

Postby darylscook » June 16th, 2011, 3:07 am

Our Campground is Kamp Kumbaya. We often refer to camp as Kamp. For us. YAK is for Young Adult Kamp.

We just started our YAK camp last year. We are trying to build it up.

That's one of the many things I wish I could go back in time and do .... become a Christian earlier and go to youth camps. Amazing how much those things shape lives. Since we joined COG, though -- and even though our local church has a really active and sizeable youth group -- I haven't heard a peep about it. I'm hinky about my 7 yr. old going overnight some place where either her mom or I wouldn't be, so it is a good possibility I'd get some youth camp that way. :)
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

Just finished working back to back camps. Hot Shot Camp ages 5-7 and Senior Camp ages 15 and up. Got home at 2:00 pm today and just woke up from my nap, haha.

And Paully, that girl needed some taken care of, lol!
