Mmm. Ok. Here's what I saw. 1 minute of a guy who used a provocative word, but what I THINK he was saying (I'm like Poimen, I don't know the full context and I think it matters here) but I think he was saying that people who tend to complain to the pastor or to others that they're not getting enough depth in bible teaching....those same complainers probably aren't living to the depths they complain that they want to hear.
There is a point to be made. I liked his reference to the tithe, for example. Want to see how deep you like it? How's your giving? That'll answer a lot, many times. Don't want to put my money where my mouth is? Well, maybe I need to shut up. Maybe I need to get deep in my own bible study, not study the pet issues that I like to study, jump into the whole counsel of God and let Him correct me. Then, maybe I'll have something to judge about the depth of the preaching I'm getting because I'll be saying it from a position of depth in my own life. Maybe.
I've done this. I've been guilty of the very thing this guy is saying. I wasn't trying to be a jackass, but I was one I'm sure. You can tell when someone is genuinely saying something in love and when they're doing it for other reasons that seem spiritual but really are not. All I know is that when I watched that 59 seconds of this guy, I couldn't help but think "Been there, done that, and don't want to do that again."
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).
