WHAT are you talking about?

WHO said anything about the devil?

HOW MANY GODS create?

If I mention a Creator, I could be American Indian. Islam, HIndu or any dozens of religions could I not??

Dear Lord, We love you so much we are going to sing about you in broad sweeping generalities. Most of the time, We will not even call you by name. JUst YOU. You know who you are. Sometimes we'll just sing about something which each of us puts a differnt meaning into like "rhythm of heaven" You know That rhythm of heaven mentioned in...um...Well it has to be in scripture somewhere, right? And God loves music so heaven HAS to have a Rhythm right? So whatever it means we'll sing about that in a droning repeatative mind numbing way until we're mesmerized into having a conniption of emotion (kind of like the way kids do in front of Pokemon which is the exact reason we stopped letting them WATCH Pokemon but if we do it with music instead of visual images then THATS GOD movig) Wait a second we're coming up on the 57th repeat of "Rhythm of HEaven" (We used to use "I'll fly away") and Brother Joe's eyes are starting to roll back in his head...I'm pretty sure it's the spirit doing it cause we're in church and this is a "worship" service.

You, we worship You.
Not your wisdom or your power, your glory or your grace.
But You, Lord, we want You.
And all else is nothing when we are lost in your embrace.

- David Baroni

We will just have to agree to disagree on this topic. Again, I'm not for the fanatical thought that we should use worldly songs to worship God, but I do believe that there are songs you would disapprove of that God accepts as pure worship...

Well, Pastor Ables, Even a Muslim can sing that while he's cutting off someones head. You can disagree all you want but I have a point.

Compare Baroni to just TWO lines of Crouch:

You (who?), we worship You (whoever you are)
Not your wisdom (whatever it is) or your power(which I feel as a chill) , your glory or your grace.
But You, Lord (Whatever your name is), we want You (whoever you are)
And all else is nothing (except for MY FEELINGS) when we are lost (Feeling-wise that is) in your embrace.

My point is that the scripture says that the devil comes to steal, kill & destroy. Everything created should be for the glory of God unless the devil has stepped in and stolen it. Thus every chord, every note, sung or played was originally intended to bring glory to God.

It seems as though you have a problem with style. As far as saying "You" instead of calling him by name.... the children of Israel did this. We are guessing when we call God Yahweh. In truth we don't know His name. Your a smart man and well studied, you should know that.

I heard this yesterday evening on Pandora and it almost always smacks my conscience in one way or another:

How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure
That he should give his only son, to make a wretch his treasure

How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turned his face away
As wounds which mar the chosen one, bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross, my sin upon his shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything: no gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ; his death and resurrection

Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart: his wounds have paid my ransom

In this instance, it was done by those oneness guys, Phillips, Craig & Dean.

LOL.. Gerald, I had deep belly laugh at this one. Thanks.

Since you have amazing humbling powers of perception and spiritual intent. Just take it upon yourself to write a Religious Book on this topic of Worship Music.

Be specific and break it down exactly like you have above in glittering detail. Be sure to outline how many times a chorus can be sung and how many times the verses can be repeated - while injecting your brass witty humor. This could really put you on the map.

Showing that I am 100% serious... I will even donate my expensive time in creating the cover spread and logos necessary to make it authentic. I can even pitch our finished product to a few publishers in the Christian world that I currently know. We can even get you on iTunes Books. I have one posted in iTunes now that I constructed. You just get this funny/hyper religious content ready.

I just want a percent of it. It's a lot like you that will buy this crazy book - that think it's actually TRUE and the other side - just for laughs! Plus if you make it funny and serious and hard to tell the difference like above... you could become your own "Prophet Jerry Clower".

Gerald,

The viewpoint you seem to have is that you desire to hear and evaluate someone's worship to God based upon religiously correct words. That is something only reserved for God. Even if someone sings all the right words as you offer , their heart can be a million miles from God.

Mark 7:6
This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

Yet, the Bible declares time and again that worship is a personal matter between an individual and God. It doesn't matter to God if it's an innocent 6 year old singing ABC's to him if the intent of their heart is directing worship to him.

The Bible actually addresses this issue. One example is found in:

Ephesians 5:19
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Paul instructed the worshippers at Ephesus to be more about psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that flow from the heart to the Lord; not religious correctness concerning what words to use in those songs.

Let's look at some actual worship psalms recorded in the Bible. Based upon your criteria, I suppose if I write a worship hymn based upon David's worship musings I'm singing about another god? Even though David didn't mention God emphatically, it's certain that his words of worship here were obvious to God if no one else.

Psalm 104
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the
wings of the wind:
4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

I could used many such examples, but the point would remain.

It's about intent of the heart, Gerald. I suppose that Amazing Grace is now inappropriate in worship due to a lack of strong verbalization about God.

1 Samuel 16:7
for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

As Usual Pastor A you make a good show but in doing so you disprove your own point.

Namley, YOU are using SCRIPTURE in your example which is more than the worship songs of today do. I'd LOVE it if they'd use a little scripture.

They sound more like advertisments for feminine Hygene products.....be sure to get that Fresh Free feeling!!!!

And ARE YOU REALLY CHAMPIONING LESS content in worship songs?

REALLY?

That is astounding.

Heres my favorite one to rip on. My CHurch even sings it and leaves out the CHrist Verses.

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel like moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place
Your love is extravagant

I almost felt like I'd watched something naughty when I had to suffer through itl;s singing (I think it needs a 70s boom chicka wah wah soundtrack)

I think it'd go over good with Marving Gaye following up with "Lets get it on"

THis is a Serious post:

(I thought I'd warn y'all ahead of time)

I'm really beginning to wonder if CHURCH has evolved out from under me.

This is a TRUTHFUL accessment of a "typical" Sunday service.

Worship (after the young women and their red scrave dances) consists of three or four "worship" songs led by the most emotional extrovert in the church. Chances are a good 50% the name of Jesus will not be mentioned or any scripture. Theres a lot about YOU and how we feel about YOU.

Chances are also good that people, after repetative singing, begin to become emotional. 100% of the time it's the women. After the people become emotional about how good they feel about singing about how good they feel about you, someone, usually THE PASTOR, gets up and says something along the lines of "We've already had Church" or "God is here in a special way" Because the BEST of GOD and CHURCH consists of old women squealing and crying.

If we make it to the message (if you could call it that) we have a message where scripture is picked to show a "principle" or "example" where WE can MAKE God do something for US, usually along the lines of DO (Or pray) x & Y and you'll get God to do "Z". If the results are slow in coming, we're advised, essentially, to tie a knot in it and hang in cause God WILL do something fantastic. Just wait. It dont matter how old, used up or sick you are.

So church consists of me singing about my feelings (about You) and being instructed in scripture How to Get My Way.
