Bro. A. J. Tomlinson in 1914

Postby darylscook » August 12th, 2012, 3:44 pm

We are starting a series in Bible Study, Spiritual Gifts. I was given some quotes by Bro. Tomlinson in the Evangel.

All of them were under the heading of “Pray,Pray,Pray”

….Get down in humility and pray and weep until these nine gifts are fully demonstrated and in use for God’s Glory – Jan 24, 1914

….so before the church will be the perfect body of our Lord, she must have all these nine gifts in perfect operation. Without these equiptment, we are meeting with defeats and shipwreck. –May 16, 1914

As I read them, I thought Wow! Let's not focus on being the use of "perfect". It doesn't seem that we did anything about them, but I found them very ahead of their time. This was 1914.

I used to love reading A. J. Tomlinson. He was very radical and progressive, more-so than many realize.

It was said that he was criticized by some for wearing neckties in the pulpit (can you believe that), so he would step out of the pulpit to preach. :D
