Y'know, they've had a lot of problems with that, it seems. This thing was set to roll out a year ago, almost. And, it did, in a way. But, they've either retooled or just backed up or something. SOMETHING was not done to someone's satisfaction. Website, curriculum, etc. And, honestly, I've wondered why this new launch or relaunch is not being discussed more.
Francis Chan's new book -- Multiply -- is set to release soon. The curriculum, which as I understand is free, is set to release on 10/12. The two 'gathering' events, which is really more of an online gathering, are 11/9 and 11/10. The website has conflicting info about it, but on one of the nights, the event to be webcast is in SF, the other night from Birmingham (at Brook Hills). The conflict is that there is one text description of the events, one graphic description, and depending on which one you read, either SF or Bham is first. The content for both nights is the same. They are soliciting homes and churches and small groups to register and host for the webcasts.
Publicity wise, it seems a little hamfisted, which surprises me given who we're dealing with. But, loving what these two are saying -- which is truth -- about American Christianity and the need to make disciples, I'm really not discouraged by some unpolished spots on the initial presentation of the curriculum.
You can also follow them on Twitter at @gomultiply. I forget their FB name. Vimeo is their video posting location for all the promos for it and informational videos if you can't get the site to load, which for the life of me I don't know why but this is not unique in this Multiply history. Comments on their site have been very kind and patient but too common in regards to technical glitches, etc.
UPDATE: That was quick. Okay. They've made some slight changes to the site, including correcting the info I alluded to earlier. So, good.
I'm glad to see that they are directly citing views from men like Jim Cymbala, which you wouldn't expect from a SBC guy like Platt. I wouldn't say one way or the other about Francis Chan and that citation whether it should be a surprise. I think both of these guys are anointed for what they're doing/saying. I can tell you I'm planning on viewing, downloading, reading all I can about what they're doing here, because it is almost word-for-word and thought-for-thought some things I've prayed about, taught in Radical U and been lead to do and discussed deeply with my wife in the last 3 months. Whenever that happens, I think you're obligated to stop and listen.
