tithes can be a sensative subject. there are people that do not believe that it is a doctrine for the NT church. I believe it is somethign that is pre-law, and I liken it to marriage. It is so foundational, that it should be assumed.

for me, I take it a step further. I do't think there is scriptural reference, directly; but I, personally, don't want to do the "minimum". Tithe is the foundation of all my giving. and as the foundation, I want to "bolster" that foundation as much as possible.

In my case, and again, not something I would suppose others would do or accept, but just for example sake: I pay tithe not on gross, but on something more than gross. what I mean is that I pay tithe on a figure rounded up to the next $1000 of gross pay.

I have found that I can't aford to not pay tithes.

Rambo,
Am I reading correctly that you would round a $500 weekly income to $1000 thus paying $100 tithes for said week?! If so, I applaud this level of faithfulness.

Okay I'm confused. Nellie Bump Bump is Mumbles Ray is Nellie Bump bump.

Hey, we already have a split personality on here with Razor/Ray Ammons.

More than one I can't handle.

I work a full-time job, have a part-time business, and minister whenever I can get booked. We tithe on the gross of all three incomes.

I look at tithing as an act of worship in the spirit of Abraham's tithe to Melchisedec. Not as a legal requirement...

Be blessed!

Pastor Gary wrote:I know there are arguments both ways, but the way our accountant explained it was "If you had a dental practice as a sole practioner, would you pay on the gross? Before office rent and salaries? Before all the X-ray film and nitrous-oxide was bought? No, you'd pay on what you got after all the overhead was paid. Ministry expenses are different, but the same principle applies... Gas to visit hospitals (even the total expense of a vehicle used only for ministry) study books, cell phones, etc. are the "tools of the trade" without which you can almost not minister at all. They are NOT part of your income, they are a cost of doing business."

Interesting. personal experience owning a network consulting company that also sold and supported systems (PC's and Apples), I did pay tithe on true gross, of all income; yes before I paid the bills and expenses.

As a aorporate employee, now, I continue to pay tithe on Gross (actually more than that as previously mentioned) - the reason is that anytheing that is deducted from my paycheck in taxes and benefits, are beneficial to my quality of life and though it may not seem like it - the bottom line is that I CHOOSE to pay those things. So, I pay tithe on Gross, and believe that it God's plan as well.

In Genesis, Abraham paid tithe, then he gave back part of teh booty that he had taken. In essense he paid on his gross, not the net of the spoils of those battles.

Tithes

Postby Dr. Ron » July 28th, 2005, 12:34 pm

Rick Warren does tithe 90% and lives on 10%. He gave back all the salaries and expenses his church had paid him over the last 25 years with interest. He takes no salary or expenses whatever.

However, he has sold 200,000,000. books. At 10% of his total income, he will not ever be able to spend the interest on his money. More power to him.

The Levites did not tithe.

Sure they did.

Numbers 18:26 wrote:Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, [even] a tenth [part] of the tithe.

Me thinks me smells the reincarnation of THE RaZeR.... 8)

If I'm wrong... just ignore me "Mumbles-Ray"... :D

No it was not The RAzEr who wrote that! For many years I did take out expenses. The last ten years or so of Pastoring I did not.
I think it is not to be used as a Law or a religious tax. Most people do not present it that way. I have heard it done, but not often.

THR RAzER is alive, but I have him chained up right now.

Be blessed.
