That actually is true, I have to agree with Quiv and Rider here. I agree 100% with Rough Rider and I think it is wrong as well. At least delete the option please.

There's a problem with creeds. They imitate experience rather than encourage it. The Nicene Creed, for example, was meant to unify the people under a set system of belief.

The first sentence:

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

Sounds good enough. But does it make anyone know the Father? Does anyone get in tune with the maker of all things visible and invisible? Maybe it does. But more likely it doesn't. More than likely it acts like an authoritarian dictate to get people to line up to outward profession. At best...AT BEST it provides a milk of the word that a babe can line up with. An inexperienced child imitates behavior rather than authenticates an experience. That's what a creed does. Induces an imitation.

Consider the twenty however many prominent teachings. Where is there any impetus toward exercising the senses to discern good and evil? Hebrews 5:13-14.

The point of a perfected church is a populace that can discern good and evil on the fast and daily basis that the senses (and the world) operate on. Not to get a bunch a babies that haven't got a clue what to do next. We have to make daily business judgements, combat more evil than I can mention and we need better practice than a copy cat christianity. We're here to be the salt of the Earth with our good discernment. Our sense to do so isn't going to happen if we are busy haggling over the bare basics. The twenty 26/29 teachings are an attempt to imitate the experience of what looks like the fully developed experience. Like the creed the concept is an inadequate one to grow with.

That is true.

So Gerald do you say it is a creed? It is the doctrine of TCOG.

It has already been established that it is a creed, which you would know if you owned a dictionary.

It may well be the doctrine of TCOG, and it has already been established that TCOG attracted the more cultic and pharisaic of COGOP.

So what's the problem?

Because the poll was a ridiculously narrow forced choice?

How was anybody "wronged"? I didn't edit a single letter of his post text... I added one option to his poll. I DID IT! And I have done it before, adding such things as "All the above / None of the above." etc.

It doesn't affect the abswers he is getting in any way --- it gives people a way to opt out with some humor of they don't want to answer.

(And, as Mike Vande said -- people, get your own board and show me how to Moderate it right.)
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

It is wrong in the fact that by you trying (in your opinion) to make it less of a "ridiculously narrow forced choice" you did nothing to change your accusation. If you really thought it was "ridiculously narrow forced choice" you should have put "None, explain below." Instead you added an accusitory option against Danny that he was trying to provoke arguement, when in fact he has put this on SEVERAL boards to see what others thought. (You should be pleased that he is rethinking alot of things, isn't that what you have been trying get him to do) It was a simple question that warranted a yes or no or not sure. If your answer wasn't there you could have NOT answered or said otherwise in a post. But instead you made it look to be that he was looking for a admitted arguement.
Oh puh-LEAZE! :P I realize this is your board, so do what ever you like. I just wanted to share my thoughts on it..... :P

FYI I have my own board.. small, but growing. we have NO CENSORSHIP (other than pornographic material). If you go out of the guidelines you are sent to a forum that everyone can see by choice and continue your nonsense with which ever nincompoop wishes to join you. It only embarrasses the individual further. ANYWHO.... *stepping off my soap box*

Yes it's a creed, but the problem the churches have with creeds isn't their existance, but them being elevated over and above the Bible. You will notice this "creed" gives scriptural support, and points to the Bible. It is not (or at least should not) be considered equal to the Word of God, and is only a summary of the basic beliefs of this organization.

The best predictor of future behavior is PAST behavior. If I misjudged his motives based upon his track record here, and was wrong, I apologize. You have to admit it was not too much of a leap to assume what I did.

It is what all of us and the Holy Spirit have been trying to do. And yes, I am always deliriously happy to see folks discover grace.

As I said, I inferred an argumentative motive from my long past history with Danny and all his alter-egos. Apparently I was not the only one, since several people chose my survey option.

Please Consult your dictionary on the use of the word "totalitarian".

It cannot apply to a free wheeling message Forum in any way shape or form.

It's not a trick. I want to know what you think. TCOG says they are against creeds. So does TCOGNC and CoGoP. If this is a creed then what's up with that?

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH

I see how it is! You want to call out other people's actions, but when you do wrong, you want to hide in the darkness. You still have to answer for your actions. If you cant take responsiblity for yourself, dont call others out when you think they have done wrong.
