Family reunion

Postby dalebert » July 20th, 2005, 3:00 am

Well its that time of the year that families get together and eat food, visit and talk about the past and how it use to be when we were young and growing up. So where do go for ur family reunion? And how far do u drive to get there?
We always have ours close to Paduach , Ky. Its about an 10 hr drive for me form Ohio. That is the area i grew up. But it seems like our imediate family is getting smaller. Most of our first cousins and my family, dont have our moms and dads. Now that i think about it, i have only one aunt that is still alive but in a nursing home. This is my moms side of the family, so my mom and her brother and sister are deceased with only my aunt left. My dad's side of the family is a different story. I really dont know them that much although my brothers and sister go when we can, we were never close with them growing up. But its really a well attended reunion, lots of people which i could never begin to even call them by their names

Well I put the "over 100" but I actually have 3 reunions that we have/do attend, Mom's side of the family has two one on her Mom's side (McIntire) that hasn't happened since I was very young, but will happen again in a few weeks in Parkersburg, WV, and the Fenton Reunion (her Dad's side) is every year, but we don't make it very often in the same area.

On my Dad's side (Pelfrey) they started reunions back up a few years ago, and my Mom helps organize it, it has been just 20-30 minutes away for the past few years, but with us moving it will be about 2 hours. It's coming up in a couple weeks as well.

On my dads side..(Ellis) started out several years ago having the family reunion in Crossville, TN.
Then it moved to MI where most of the nephews and nieces and their family are. Along with a few of my siblings.
Untill last year it remained here, but last year it went back to Crossville. All my brothers and sister except for one live there now. I have a brother in GA.
I am hoping to attend it this year, as my oldest brother is 78 years old, don't think I will have him around much longer. As the song goes... He don't get around much any more.
Our family is getting older also and who is left to continue this tradition are those that are in their 40's and 50's along with their children.
Every year we have the family tree out to view, dating all the way back to 1400. Very interesting. :P

Just got back from putting over 2,000 miles on our car going to a Reunion in Monterey Cal. Even saw an exit for Yuba City and thought of dbserv.
Let the wild rumpus start!

Suggest another choice in your poll.

My family never has family reunions.

I think that comes from One Brother being a Pentecostal minister and the other seven brothers being gun totin' ner do wells.

Ahem....Perhaps we need to clarify "Family Reunion".

A family Reunion to my way of thinking, clears the hollers.

I don't count driving over for supper with an brother a family reunion.

The last "Family Reunion" I attended was for my grandmothers folks.
I wore a picture of my 3rd Great Grandfather (The civil War soldier) and his Cherokee wife on my Shirt. People stopped me and said that's my grandfather!!!! There were hundreds in attendance.

And for clarification, the gun toting FBI raided fellas were a couple of generations back.

I was president of our family reunion for about 10 years until it started to interfere with my ministry. I hated letting go but some things are more important. The people in charge now just have a meet, greet and eat!
If ya all know any Weagraff, Stevenson, Johnson, Schubot, Baldwin, ect, I may be related. I know someone on here shares a cousin with me.
My wife is from WV and is related to the Loving's & Upton's.

You should have let me know ahead of time.

I'd have driven down to the exit (probably in Sac) and bought you lunch, dinner, or something. My house is only a few miles from that exit.

Next time ................................
