Your Prayer Life

Postby MrDanger » August 24th, 2005, 9:31 am

We recently started a Bible study on prayer on Wednesday nights. I am reading a book by John Maxwell called Partners In Prayer about the power of a praying church when they pray for their pastor and leaders.

This made me wonder. How do you describe your prayer life?

Be completely honest. :D

Could those who chose "pray without ceasing" explain their understanding of what that phrase means.

I graze on prayer for the most part. Throughout the day, I just make small talk, I guess, with God. Mentally, sometimes out loud. And, I try, but only about half the time successfully, to have some daily bible reading and prayer time. We pray with our daughter at night. I pray with her in the morning on the way to my sister-in-law's with a sort of rote prayer that follows the Lord's Prayer in some ways. She says "Amen" when she opens her eyes. The other night, I was washing her face in the tub and when I removed the washcloth, she opened her eyes and said "Amen". But, seriously, that little prayer with her in the morning is heartfelt, and I think on it heavily and come back to it throughout the day.

And I still mess up beyond belief.....

I'm glad God is graceful, that's fer shore.

Prayer without ceasing

Postby Pastor Don » August 24th, 2005, 8:06 pm

Mr. Danger

Not sure how to respond to the poll question. I pray almost constantly when I am alone during the day. When I have to make on the spot decisions, I pray.

However; I also have two times each day set aside for reading and prayer. So how would be the best to respond in your list of answers.

I am reminded of one of the preachers that wrote (sorry I can't remember which one) that when asked about his spending 4 hours a day in prayer his reply was that he was so busy during the day that he could not afford to spend less time in prayer.

Oh how I wish I could become THAT disiplined. By the way John Maxwell's book is outstanding.
Blessings; DJ

Pray without ceasing is the closest answer for me, but I can also say that I don't pray enough. I pray as I work, as things are going on, I try to include God in what I am doing, whatever that is.

Pray without ceasing was the closest for me also.
When I rise in the morning, I have the goodness of God on my heart, with a praise on my lips.
During the day what ever I'm doing, I am either saying a prayer or thanking him for answers to unanswered prayers or answered ones. Or singing some ole blue book song. Many come to mind through out the day in which I will lapse into singing while I'm doing chores.

The word says, I will bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be on my lips...(paraphased) guess thats about where I am at.

When there's needs on here or other request I know of I try to say a prayer for them. Sometimes it can turn into a lenghty prayer for there is so much that needs prayed for.

When I wake up first thing every morning, I come down, pour my coffee, read the bible and pray. So that is my set time.

But I also pray without ceasing throughout the day. So I can answer to both of those. :D

I cannot say I pray without ceasing, but I pray a lot, and I mean a lot.

Every day, numerous times, and lots of other times.

Response:I think this show cases the misunderstanding of "without ceasing".

Never quit praying.

Praying everyday until life is over is "without ceasing".

The scripture does not mean never stop praying even long enough to eat, breathe or sleep.
What we need here is a good revival! lol

I agree; that's why I asked those who chose "without ceasing" to explain what they meant.
