In general, my view of rape and/or sexual assault is:

Under NO circumstances does the female victim ever bear any responsibility, period.

Rape is inexcusable, but females should not act in a way that puts themselves in a compromising position.

As horrible as rape is, I can see why some men feel that women lead them on.

I agree with everything you are saying, btw.

------

I am AMAZED that OF ALL PLACES, the prevailing attitude in this online 'Christian' community is what it is...

Who would've thought. It makes the idea of missionaries coming to the USA a bit more believable.

The things we do/say/believe in the name of Christ. I am continually amazed. I have met a tiny few professing Christians who I would accuse of knowing anything about him at all.

Amy, sometimes I really wonder about you.

I had to be married to the meanest, sorriest, most worthless man in the world of men, but I somehow seemed to get on with my life. I had a child to raise, (a very pretty perfect child) and she did not need my hangups about a man, so she did not get them. If you want to hate God, go for it. But don't get so upset with those of us who Love the Lord and don't blame him or any church or anyone for the mistakes, or bad choices we made in life.

And yes, women should be held to some responsibility if they get into a compromising situation, and then want to back out. All cases are different and should be judged differently.

As they say, just my 2 cents

What do you mean about the attitude here? I'm not sure I understand what you are referring to? And please, I am NOT by any means being sarcastic, ugly or smart - I'm just needing a bit of clarification.

Thanks! :D

The way people were treating Legacy on this issue -- the lack of compassion, the lack of understanding, the quickness with which they smacked her in the virtual face with stern advice and admonition... that stuff.

I think this is an easy issue -- zero tolerance -- under any circumstance. I absolutely agree that we all are responsible for our own behavior -- and I certainly know about living with consequences of bad choices... and even yet, I don't feel there is ever anything a victim can do that lessens the severity of the wrongness of a person who commits a crime against them.

I'm sorry Amy that we've disappointed you. I thought speaking from the heart is what we were about.

Sherry, I didn't read anything from you that disappointed me.

I always thought I would be a great politician (oh wait, I really WAS a great politician)... but man, you beat me hands down.

Only a Christian would be twisted around enough to scream "SELF-RIGHTEOUS" at someone pointing out self-righteousness. That, is amazing.

You continue to badmouth the people of this board that don't agree with you. You call into question their Christianity and their integrity every time something or someone irks you......which seems to be quite a bit.

Eh, it's really not that many people. You're a small pack, and not nearly as intimidating as you once were. You even seem to have lost some of your founding members. You just see it on this large scale because you're a part of it.

I shake my head when I think that someone who professes to hate God and says she doesn't even know if she believes anymore even knows what a Christian should act like and sets out to correct the ones who are Christians.

Sure, and if you lost your breasts tomorrow and had a complete historectomy, you would no longer be able to identify with womanhood. Good logic.

The story of Christianity is, IN THE LEAST, literature. It can be read and comprehended. It's only when all the hocus pocus is woven in that it becomes so unclear.

You continuously come out biting and scratching and YOU are going to call into question someone's ability to be Christ-like?

Hey, being Christ-like isn't my claim. It's your standard, is it not?

Good night, why am I banging my head against this rock?

Well, it is not a behavior recently introduced by you, nor am I the first to whom you respond in this manner.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't think anything lessens the severity of the wrongness of a person who commits the crime. I think most everyone is just saying that you really shouldn't put yourself in a place to be wronged. (Again, I do concede that sometimes rape happens to women who were not in any type of questionable situation - not to mention serial rapists, etc.)

But don't you think that if you send out signals it makes you more vulnerable to the possibilty of that happening - especially when you tell a man who's hormones are now controlling his ability to reason and think like a sane person - to stop?

Heck yeah I do. I absolutely agree with you.

I also think there is a right and wrong way to deliver that type of admonition to the girl sending the signals.

Sanctimonious behavior is hurtful, not helpful, but ironically seems to appear in full-force when dealing with hurt people. I (obviously) have little tolerance for it. I'll do what I can to protect the underdog until the day I die, and if I squash a thousand pious people to save a hurt person from one more kick to the ribs, I can live with that.

Not sure why you are lumping so many issues together Doris, but they are your 2 cents... you can spend them as you wish.

My ex-husband and those related issues have nothing to do with my feelings on the topic of rape and sexual assault.... and believe me... no hang-ups on my end about men.

I absolutely love --- ADORE men.

How neat -- we both have a perfect child. Who would've thought!! ...you, being so sweet and all... and me, well, being me.

Yes, men do get raped..

Postby K4J » September 29th, 2005, 11:39 am

I thought the topic was for women..so replied to only that aspect.

Men get raped. Far less than women, but they do get raped. How many court cases has their appearance (dress), where they were, how much they drank, etc. have you heard? If you were to go to a rape center and deal with statistics in court cases, you would see that, men are not treated the same as women in the courtroom. Men are treated as victims. The rape victim, if a woman is treated as if she is the perpetrator to a certain extent. Many women do not report rape, simply because of the way they are treated by the public. Where they were, how they dressed, etc..everything you asked here is what a defense attorney would ask them during a trial, making them out to be w**res or prostitutes, looking to get what 'some believe they asked for'.

When it comes to women in this country, (and many others), we are second class citizens, right down to how we are treated when a crime is committed. Whether someone admits it or not, asking questions about what led up to the violation is judgment--pure and simple. RAPE IS RAPE==not something that happens because of what we do, where we are or whether we consumed a twinkie (which, in court has been used as defense, due to it's chemical reaction to some people) or a drink.

This is my final say on this, even though I might vent to myself and bite a few holes in my lips. It is like beating a dead horse when people have their mind set on what causes such a violent crime...violent being the key word there.

At the risk of being quizzed regarding a trip to Switzerland for an operaion that I nevr took, I have to say that what you have written is true now, but with advent of the acceptance of homosexuality into the manstream of American life, it won't be for much longer. In a few years, male rape victims will asked if they always wear their pants that tight, their shirts open past the neck buton, if they always walk that provocatively, etc and so on. It's just a matter of time...
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?
