sorry, but this sounds to me like you are projecting your personal issues/beliefs, more than expression an opinion.

comparing hooters that has a marketing campaign and demographic studies based on sex, is completely different than "mixed bathing" - where boys and girls (or men and women) are swiming in vicinity of eachother.

As I mentioned in other threads, if the logic is to obstain from even appearing evil, then you can't even go to the grocery store, since they sell "adult bevereges", and otehr adult "entertainment", depending on the store.

Hooters has great Buffalo wings!! (or, so I am told, by an ex-pastor's wife that has since moved to CA)

The Seattle area has 3.
The menu is the same at all 3 too. I figured I needed to verify that one.

It's women wearing half T-shirts and 70's era hot pants...they have cold beer and some of the best hot wings money can buy

I know what goes on there because:
(a) I don't live under a rock in a cave. There have been numerous news items and other TV mentions over the years. (Hey, I also know what crack cocaine is!) and
(b) There is (or was?) a Hooter's in Aloha Tower Marketplace, a big local dining and entertainment complex, and it is OPEN AIR. You can walk past on the way to the steak house and see pretty girls in orange shorts and tiny T-shirts scrambling around with trays of beer and hot wings, without getting near the place.

It has been mentioned here that Hooter's exploits women. Doesn't Victoria's Secret do the same? How about most any women's clothing line, makeup advertisement, diet program (commercials), etc.? Think about it. We eat often at a restaurant called O'Charley's. It is a family type place though it does have a bar. It seems that the ownership requires the waitresses and hostesses to dress in a certain fashion. They wear extremely tight pants. Is that not exploitation?

Since I know you're not suggesting taking youth to Hooter's is a grand idea or asking everyone to not buy any more clothes, I'm going to assume your point here is to poke holes in the logic that would allow kids to do co-ed swimming but not go to a restaurant of scantily clad women. Correct?

I wouldn't take my youth group to Hooters.

Check this out...women basically sign away their dignity when they sign the contract papers to work there. This from Wikipedia:

The Smoking Gun obtained a copy of the Hooter's Employee Handbook, which notes that:

Customers can go to many places for wings and beer, but it is our Hooter Girls who make our concept unique. Hooters offers its customers the look of the "All American Cheerleader, Surfer, Girl Next Door."

Female employees are required to sign that they "acknowledge and affirm" the following:

1. my job duties require I wear the designated Hooters Girl uniform.
2. my job duties require that I interact with and entertain the customers.
3. the Hooters concept is based on female sex appeal and the work environment is one in which joking and sexual innuendo based on female sex appeal is commonplace.
4. I do not find my job duties, uniform requirements, or work environment to be offensive, intimidating, hostile, or unwelcome.

THAT is totally different than going swimming, by the way.

When I was about fifteen years old, I had a woman from another church blast me because she heard that women at my church (Marietta COGOP represent!!!!) wore pants to Wednesday evening service. Not only that, we had a monthly concert ministry (the goal of which was to reach out to the lost, mind you) and some women had sang in pants. She said, "I don't want my husband to lust after a woman wearing pants!!"

Some want to take those of us who allow coed swimming and follow us to some crazy place where we take young people to Hooters and show up in lingerie - this is where you assume this is headed, right? So I want to back up and ask you - why do you allow your women to wear pants? That's had to be a pretty recent decision, I guess - within the past 20 years or so, right? At what point did you decide it wasn't lust-provoking for women to wear pants? ......And who says it isn't?

Now that is wierd to me. If your wife (or mine) bought something from Victoria's Secret for the purpose of looking attractive/enticing to their husband, how does that exploit anyone?

Yes. It is. No argument on that point.

My point is that the appearance of woman scantly clad at Hooters and woman going scantly clad at the beach, in public, wherever are similiar in the sexual exploiting of the physical anatomy of women. Yes, swim wear is usually consider more approriate and less provocative. It's even sometimes viewed as classy. But it is still sensual and sexually exploiting in that sense by and large.

I just can't accept that this is an okay thing for us as believers to do, much less as an organized youth function. Now, change the group's attire and provide good oversight, then it's just about organized fun, like a water baloon fight. Leave the common swim wear in and I can't buy it. Sorry. Just can't see it.

The commercials, the ads, pastor. That is the point. It is exploitation! So in other words that in and of itself is not a sufficient reason to stay away from Hooters.

DeWayne, I am not speaking of swimming or mixed bathing. But if I were my question would be why wear a 2 piece bikini when a one piece with a skirt is fine to swim in? Many things can be used to swim in besides skimpy, revealing swim wear. In fact I'd guess that most don't actually swim they just play in the water.

Right. And I totally agree we should lean toward the modest side of swimwear. Some of the times I've been around official youth group functions involving swimming, one piece bathing suits are kind of a mandate.
