First of all, intent and actions speak much louder than an amount of skin. Swimming suits while people are swimming and having fun is not "sensual" unless a person is so sensitive to the sight of skin that they just can't handle themselves, and if that is the case, that person needs to deal with some issues!

This is also true of Hooters, they wear skimpy clothes, and can be crude, it's not what's showing half as much as what they are doing with it.

I will say I have been to Hooters, once with my father in law, and two brother in laws, I was told it isn't as bad as what it's made out to be, and when we went, it really wasn't. their clothes were not much different than many places (short shorts and T shirts (not half shirts) to be honest I don't remember much about our waitress, the wings weren't bad, and the Key Lime Pie was excellent. a few weeks later, my family stopped there and grabbed a bite to eat, we got excellent service, a decent meal, and there was nothing sexual about it. My wife got to try the pie, and got to see exactly what the place was like since I had gone. Haven't been back since.

Now I am sure guys go in there, and the girls play it up for them, they are working for tips, and they know how to get them. They saw from us that they got a good tip for giving good service, not for acting inappropriate. Nothing I saw there either time I went was much different than Applebees or other restaurants.

As for taking the Youth, I don't think that's a good idea, Their intentions for going probably wouldn't be the pie!

I would say I eat there every night, but then my wife wouldn't wear the shirt anymore.

KIDDING!

I've eaten at Hooters twice --- once alone and once with my wife. The second time was in Pensacola, Florida on Memorial Day Weekend. We didn't know it, but that's the weekend the homosexuals and lesbians show up in Florida in droves, at least on the Emerald Coast part of it. So, half of my experience at Hooters was in a room full of very, ahem, manly girls. It was doubly weird.

The other time I ate at Hooters was in Destin in 2001 or 2002. I was in town with my brother for a food show (he works for a food company, sells to restaurants, etc.). He was at the Sandestin Resort until early afternoon, and I had a morning to kill. I went to the beach with a book for a bit, then shopped and goofed off. It was getting close to lunch and so I was scoping a place to eat when I saw Hooters. A blend of curiosity and temptation hit, and I wheeled in. I ordered the wings, and spent far more time wiping BBQ sauce off my hands and face than looking at the girls (not that I am that holy, but that I was that greasy). They didn't flirt with me; I sat at a table and the flirting action was at the bar. I watched ESPN. The whole thing is a game designed to separate men from their money. Just the same, I wouldn't take a youth group there. Not any real reason to unless you're trying to make a point that either probably (1) can be made a better way or (2) doesn't need to be made at all.

Paully, we could meet there and I imagine we wouldn't be the only ones there from the Assembly. :D

Personally, I think Buffalo Wild Wings is a better place/wings/atmosphere to go to.

You disagree with what I saw when I was there? boy if I'd have known you where there at that time in that restaurant I wish I had known, you would have been welcome to have joined us, maybe the view was different from your table!

Sorry but AppleBees waitresses and waiters don't wear skin tight shorts pulled up in no man's land, sleaveless shirts with a low cut showing as much cleavage as possible without serving a breast on your plate instead of the wings you probably ordered. We are all aware of what Hooter's is about, what goes on there all the time, and that it is much different than standard places.

I ordered Hooters to go a couple of years back. A friend rode with me to pick up the order. He refused to go in and he isn't even saved. When I walked through the door I was surrounded by "cheap sl**ts". Don't get me wrong, I know they don't serve up sex per se (though many probably do after hours) but they do alot for their tips I'm sure. I told the gals I was there to pick up a to go order. For some reason I get the feeling that experience was somewhat like being at a whore house. Maybe someone can tell me if it's so. The wings and the cajun shrimp were great but I felt like I needed a bath when I left there.

Maybe the youth group or the family should grab a burger at Cafe Risque in NC or Cafe Erotica in Georgia. Truckers say they have great food and a fun atmosphere. GROSS!!!

What troubles me more about this discussion more than any thing is that it seems as though there are people here that see no problem with going to a place that even knowing the premise behind the "restaurant".

I am not talking about everyone, because there are those who openly admit to not living a Christian lifestyle and I do not expect them to be bound to a lifestyle they do not personally embrace.

But to hear Christians stating that there is nothing wrong with going to a place such as Hooters because they have good food is simply mind boggling to me. I would expect the same people to say there is nothing wrong with reading Playboy and Penthouse because they have good articles.

The argument that Victoria Secret is in the same category is somewhat unbelievable. But in the same vein, I will say that I would not have a female youth leader taking a group of teen girls there for a shopping trip either... Victoria and her now lack of secrets should be a place that married women choose to visit.

We as Christians need to really consider what impression we are leaving on the youth of today. The media and the world tell them that for a girl to parade around wearing next to nothing is perfectly acceptable, they tell our young men that to look at and lust over them well that's OK too. And what do they hear from the Christians voice...well its OK if they have good chicken wings....God please help us.

As for the swimming thing, IF I go to a beach I am going there to be with my family. I can choose to sit and look, OR I can choose to stay focused on my family. I can assure you that my family will be presentable even at the beach. I see no problem with bathing suits there are some that are not all about showing off the body. We have a responsibility to TEACH appropriate attire. And there are things that are appropriate.

The truth is, I do not think that going to Hooters is SINFUL, I do though believe with all of my heart that going to such places ESPECIALLY with teens gives them a message that to dress like that is acceptable and to hoot and holler over someone dressed that way perfectly fine as well.

Well, I am sure this will be picked apart and I will be made to look the part of a prude and I am fine with that. I think our kids get enough confusion as it is, they don't need Christians arguing over something so simple as this.

God bless...
Blessings; DJ

I wasn't going to get involved in this thread, but...

Full Quiver made some assumptions in his last post that beg to be corrected.

When I walked through the door I was surrounded by "cheap sl**ts".

That's your opinion, is it not? Can you prove it, other than you making a moral judgment about someone that you don't know? I happen to have known a couple of the "Hooters Girls." One came to Nashville from a very small town, her family was very poor and could not afford to send her to college. She worked her way through college working at Hooters. She attended church every week, studied when she wasn't working, and didn't party. Other than her employer, she was the same as every other young woman trying to build a better future for herself.

For some reason I get the feeling that experience was somewhat like being at a whore house.

I can assure you from personal experience that they are nowhere near the same. If the police should walk into a Hooters, unless you are falling down drunk or fighting, you have nothing to worry about because you are engaged in a legal activity. And if a whore house made as much noise as a Hooters it would be raided in a heartbeat.

I am not defending Hooters. In reality it is nothing but a well promoted sports bar chain. Yes, they serve food so they have a restaurant license and minors can go there, but as I said, the reality is that they are a bar. I would not take any youth organization ( church group or little league ), to a bar.

I have nothing to hide Mike and your point about preacher's kids is not valid. You know as well as I do that Hooter's girls are not all on the up and up. If they were they would have a job elsewhere. Why work at Hooters? Please answer that. And by the way, I have nothing to hide!!!

TW, It is my opinion and it was my experience. Wonder why they rushed me? My guess is that they all wanted to be my witress in hopes of getting a big tip. Or maybe it's cause I'm so handsome!!!

How about frequenting a diner called, "breasts", or "Tatas", or "Nipples", or "Double D's"? What does Hooter's mean/imply anyways?

I figure the way you like to "generalize" that it is a valid point...saying ALL Hooter girls are "cheap sl**ts" is like saying that ALL cheerleaders sleep with the football team, ALL jocks are dumb, ALL PKs ARE BAD, ALL members of a church are gonna make it to heaven...read TW's post again

FQ,

If they all rushed you, I'm sure it was because they wanted a big tip. After all that's what they work for. Their income is based upon tips, the more tips, and big tips means they earn more money. As to why do they work there, the young lady that I wrote about should give you a clue about some of them. She had no marketable job skills when she came to Nashville, so she used the only thing she had, her looks. Now I know you'll probably say she could work somewhere else, another restaurant. However, there are a limited number of jobs in "good restaurants" and flipping burgers at Mickey D's won't pay the rent, buy food, pay the college tuition and buy the books.

How about frequenting a diner called, "breasts", or "Tatas", or "Nipples", or "Double D's"? What does Hooter's mean/imply anyways?

If you look at their menu, you will see an OWL. What connotation do you put on the name Hooters?

Altenative explanation: Don't get me wrong, I know they don't serve up sex per se (though in my mind I could imagine that many probably do after hours, as if a woman who has lugged trays of food and drink all day to earn a living has the energy for after-hours activity) but they do alot for their tips I'm sure -- like putting up with jerky, rude hyper-religious customers who look down their noses at them and pass judgement with no knowledge.

Danny, you would no-doubt find Tony Campolo a flaming liberal, and perhaps even question his salvation, but I present this illustration I have used in sermons before for your consideration:

Tony Campolo, a Christian sociologist and evangelist tells of a time when he had a speaking engagement in Honolulu. Because of jet lag, he found himself up at 3 A.M. and went to find something to eat. He wound up at a sleazy diner in Waikiki.

After a few minutes the place filled up with a group of prostitutes. They were noisy, provocatively dressed, and crude. He overheard a conversation between two of them. One of them said, "Tomorrow is my birthday. I'm going to be thirty-nine years old." Her companion responded, "So what do you want from me. A party? You want me to get you a cake and sing 'Happy Birthday'"? "No, but why do you have to be so mean? I don't expect a party. I've never had one before, why should I have one now.?"

At that moment Campolo made a decision. He would throw a party for her the next night. He got the manager of the diner to cooperate, decorated the place and bought a cake. The word quietly spread through the streets from prostitute to prostitute. As the woman, Agnes, came in that next night the diner was packed with hookers, and Campolo had everyone ready to say "Happy Birthday!" When it happened, her mouth fell open and she became so shaky that they thought she was going to faint.

When the birthday cake came out, she was crying so hard that she couldn't even blow out the candles. She asked them if they would allow her to take the cake home so that she could show it to others; it was her first birthday cake. She promised to return quickly. In the time that Agnes was gone, Campolo asked them if he could lead them in a prayer for Agnes. He prayed that God's goodness would touch her, that her life would be changed, that she would know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It was a strange scene: a Christian sociologist leading prayer for a bunch of prostitutes at 3 o'clock in the morning.

When he was finished, the manager said, "You never told me you were a preacher. What kind of church do you belong to? " Campolo replied, "A church that throws birthday parties for prostitutes at 3 o'clock in the morning." The man replied, "No you don't. There is no church like that. If there were, I would join it."

God -- please touch our hard hearts and help us to see people through eyes of grace and not judgement. Make us the kind of Christians, the kind of church that would dare to throw a birthday party for a prostitute at 3 o'clock in the morning. That YOUR name may be glorified!
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

FQ, sorry dude, but to generalize that every waitress in "Hooters" is a slut is really inaccurate. The dictionary states that a "slut" is:

1. a. A woman considered sexually promiscuous.
b. A woman prostitute.

2. A dirty untidy woman

3. A woman adulterer

Now Danny, do you have proof that ALL waitresses of Hooters are one of the above or for that matter proof of any of them?
