Don't get me wrong, I know they don't serve up sex per se (though many probably do after hours) but they do alot for their tips I'm sure. I told the gals I was there to pick up a to go order. For some reason I get the feeling that experience was somewhat like being at a whore house. Maybe someone can tell me if it's so. The wings and the cajun shrimp were great but I felt like I needed a bath when I left there. Shocked

Now at what point did I generalize and include every Hooter's girl? I don't reckon I'll ever hear even a remote sign of an apology for saying I did. I spoke of my experience at the local Hooter's in Murfreesboro. Did I mention the girls you know Yellow Rose?

True most likely the Hooter's employees need salvation as does all regenaerate mankind. I doubt much soul saving is going on while sitting at the table and gobbling down wings. If you are truly interested in the souls then go door to door like they did in the book of Acts and you will eventually find them at home where you can present the Gospel to them. If that's not your thing then pray and the lord can lead you to them.

It doesn't take a Bible scholar to know what verse Wendy was speaking of. It just takes a Bible reader. Believe me, it's not hid in the prophecies, laws, history, and geaneologies of the Old Text. It's right there in Matthew. It says the man that puts away (divorces) his wife causes her to committ adultery. It goes both ways however so the woman that puts away the husband causes him to committ adultery. Does it say hooter's girls cause men to committ adultery? Nope! Does it prove that someone can cause another to committ adultery? Absolutely!!!

TW wrote:However, I can find nothing that places any of the blame upon the woman being lusted after. Sorry gcats.
The WORD says causeth thus implying fault or blame to some extent.

Thank you Scooter for your honesty though you could come under the same fire as me. You may not completely agree with my wording or statements but I do believe you agree with the fact that Hooter's is about selling sex. The wings are just ala carte!

BTW, when God said Israel was backsliding or backslidden did He generalize and thus include all the Jews? When He said they had committ whoredom was He meaning that each and every soul was guilty of such? When the Lord said Israel had sinned against Him did that mean there was no righteous in Israel?

Steve, where are you at? Did you start this thread to incite or to discuss?

And you knew that all of those Hooter girls who surrounded you were "cheap sl**ts" how Danny?...that IS a generalization in my book...and to "expect" my comments is rather funny seeing how if my memory serves me correctly I have not responded to anything you have posted since you made the comments that if my mother would have known that I was gonna turn out the way I did she would have aborted me and that I am the son of a devil...I read your posts, that's true and you do have the habit of generalizing and in this case you did it whether you want to admit it or not...that would be like me walking into your church and see you and every male wearing a tie sitting there and then make the statement that "Everyone who attends this church is sanctimonious." when in reality I only meant you...now I know that you are sanctimonious but to "lump" everyone at your church with you because they are wearing a tie is generalizing...and you need to go look up the scripture TW posted, Mat. 5:28 I don't believe it says anything about putting your husband away...and what makes you think you deserve an apology?...you've "slammed" several on here and were later proven wrong and yet no apology was forthcoming from you...you've personally attacked me more then once including, but not limited to, insulting my family and I've never gotten an apology...here, I'll pass you a crying towel to dry your tears :( ...see Danny the truth of the matter is I'm honest and true to my "stand"...I say what I mean and mean what I say...ImaPK, me, Mike, and any other name I'm known by have been "attacked" by others on this board...I'VE been "attacked"...not my family...not my dad...not my mom...not my brothers...ME...I'll take the "attacks" on me and still respect my "attacker"...but you crossed the line last year and to be honest I have no respect for you and that is why I haven't responded to any of your posts up until now...if anyone on J2 loses respect for me(if they ever had any to begin with  ) for what I've just posted so be it...like I said in this post I say what I mean and mean what I say...now Danny after you respond to this post(if you do)I'll go back to leaving you alone and ignore you until your sanctimonious attitude irratates me again...fire away

I have been reading seven pages of posts! :P

My, my, my! I would never have guessed this topic would have come to the place it has, or I would not have started it! Can we not discuss this issue without personally attacking those who believe differently? To be completely transparent about this, I started the thread to see if I was completely out in left field and if there were many who would think that going to Hooters is an OK thing for a youth group. Thankfully, (to me) I saw that there were only a few.

I saw the apples/oranges, apples/billy goats  comparisons(Thanks, dad). Well, I will give you apples and maybe Asian pears or tangerines and oranges, but I do concede the point that it is not the same as the swimming issue exactly.

Poimen, I believe, has expressed fairly closely to my opinion. I appreciate what he said, and the way in which he said it, as well as Ray. Both handled themselves with decency and order :) . If you haven't read the seven pages of posts on this completely, I encourage you to do so. No matter how you feel about it, I think a more troubling thing is the way in which we have been treating each other. If there are any Hooters girls reading this, I doubt they would want to sign on to be a part of the religion of what has been represented. Please don't get mad at me, I am just making an observation.

We are all worthy of the fires of hell. As was aptly stated, we should endeavor to love them and each other as Christ loved us. How about we let this go quietly away and agree that we will not change each others mind on it? How about, if you feel the need to post further on this topic, do so with the image of those about whom you speak being in the room with you as you type.

"They will know that you are my disciples in that you have love one toward another." I just want to get to heaven, guys, as I know you do. We are not serving the Kingdom by destroying one another.
The Bible calls children a blessing and debt a curse, but in our culture we apply for curses and reject blessings.

Wow.. It only took 80+ post and 1200 + views and 6+ pages to get to the D&R Discussion.. Must be a record..

The question was ;

Is Hooters an appropriate restaurant for a leader to take the youth group to?

I voted I don't think so.. Why.. 90 post & 1222 views and 7 pages of disagreement.. They are to many other eating establishments to go to.. Take them to a Chili's or Applebees ,, somewhere with a big screen tv on a Thursday Nite and watch Survivor.. LOL...

But speaking of looking at a person of the opposite sex and going goo goo eyed.. With a show of hands how many of you will admit to changing directions while making the rounds(and many laps) of the General Assembly halls in the Tabernacle on Keith Street to check out that tight sweater or short skirted .....or .. Well you get my drift..

You younger guys will not know what I am talking about will you.. umm

It is hard for me to imagine any Spiritual minded youth leader taking his group to Hooters, if a youth leader took one of my children there, it would be the last time my child would be under his/her "ministry". I would be having a meeting with that leader and the Pastor. I would be having a sit down with the Pastor and youth leader even if didn't have children in his care.

The best line yet Billy

Lust is in the heart of the imbiber

Jesus if you look to lust

And yes pastorables their are women to avoid but I don't think the purpose of hooter's girls is to get you too lust after the hooter's but to buy more wings and beer while enjoying the view and the flirtation.

I've been there and while I would not recc. an official youth desgnation it won't send you to hell any faster than not going.

a lustful heart will find an object to lust after wherever they are

And BTW for those of you who have never been
the Hooters arn't that good
and the wings are good if you like them breaded.
Speaking the truth as I know it.

I consider this type of people a stumbling block, but what draws and lures men and women? James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Maybe not, but the average man will be tempted...especially the teenagers with young hormones.

Hypothetical: If Hugh Hefner starts a classy restaurant called "Bunnies", should it be recommended to patronize for the great prime rib?! Great food is fine, but we take some things a little too far.

For me personally, I still believe in "abstaining from the appearance of evil".

Never once did I say I thought a youth group should go to Hooter's.

Full Quiver wrote: Of course we have got into the why it isn't and what hooter's is really about. No need to change the facts. If you consider it an insult then so be it.

Apparently you meant it as one, so be it.

Wrong, I looked for the passage, couldn't find it, asked for the passage and I did it nicely...thank you very much.

Full Quiver wrote: I expect it from Mike W., but I am surprised a bit from you.

And why is that? Because I don't get self righteous and throw scripture every chance I get? Sorry to disappoint you.

Well, when if comes to D&R discussions, most times I don't even read them anymore. I have my opinions and beliefs and I'm pretty sure we don't agree on those....so must have missed it.

Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures? You just said "It goes both ways however so the woman that puts away the husband causes him to committ adultery."

Prove it.

I contend that is not possible because when that was spoken divorce was not even an OPTION to be initiated by a woman. Women were summarily dismissed by their husbands for almost any reason at all, but a woman putting away her husband? Don't believe it.

PG, I understand your point. And you have made some valid observations. However, without getting back into the discussion proper, the scripture does bare out that woman could/did divorce there husbands as well. See Mark 10:11-12

Furthermore, the prinicple in Jesus teaching that to look with lust is to committ adultery in the heart would seem to be true in the reverse application as well. To dress to draw sexual attention to yourself, or knowing your dress will draw it, is lustful and thus adulterous in nature. Again consider that this would be akin (i.e "such like" unto) wantoness, etc. It would be a violation of the apostolic injunction (1 Timothy 2:9) for Christian women to let their dress be modest and with shamefacedness (not like the world and unashamed to show "it" off) and sobrierty (decency and soundness).

In my studies, I have come to understand that passage saying "if a woman shall put away her husband" does not necessarily mean that she initiated the divorce, because to understand that would contradict other things we know to be true.

If my understanding is faulty, I will stand corrected.

Ritchie never once have I advocated the youth group go to hooter's even for the wings.

Nor did I wish to insinuate that there are not situations that are avoidable that make temptation harder to resist.

it is the absurdity of the question it smacks of the old advice to members and if you obey the 29 and don't get cursed with a cheating or abusive spouse than you are holy and are guaranteed a trip to heaven.

You stated and I think that it is fine to avoid the appearance of evil but I challenge those who feel like that the "appearance" is not arbitrary.

Each man must work out his own salvation with fear and trembling

A youth Director that scheduled his meeting at hooter's has more problems with his ministry than eye lusting teenagers.

The average man is not tempted at hooters to lust there is a lot more revealing and sexual provocative clothing on the street it is tempting for those who are uptight about women in "appropriate" attire.

As you said for me..........

Mike, I NEVER said your mother would have opted for an abortion. Therefore you are a liar but coming from the resident sinner that's not an issue. Of course I knew you were a liar because you reported to me some ill comments that your brother Tim supposedly said and I confronted him about it. You also said he loves confrontation. He doesn't. Ask him! I never said your mother would have aborted you. What I said was that if you continue in your ways and die lost therefore soending eternity in hell then your mother would have probably wished that you had never been born. I would feel the same way if one of my children wound up in hell.

Pastor Gary, Poimen is correct and a woman could divorce, put away, her husband. I agree that it was not common and Jewish men commonly put away their spouses for just about anything. Nevertheless rightly divided the Scriptures tell us my stand is so.

Mike, I don't normally wear ties and suits to church. Funny!!!!

I agree with the general consensus of your post, nevertheless, I will agree to disagree on the stated point above. The difference being that you know what you are getting when you go to a place like HOOTERS. The bumper stickers of many 18 wheelers will prove that out. As a sidebar, a good book related to this thought is "Every Man's Battle" by Arterburn & Stoeker. The book admonishes to guard your eyes which are one of the soul's portals.

I understand that men can't hide under a rock, but we can stay out of HOOTERS. :)

Response: We are talking about HOOTERS.

That's it. Being a waitress is rough and can be honorable.

Living here at the home of the original Hooters it is beyond me how any honest person could defend the degrading of women in this manner.

Scooter, it may be important to point out that not all Hooters may be the same, just as not all waitresses that work there are doing the same things. I would guess the "original" Hooters is probably very well known, and really pushes the sex side of things, the two I have been to honestly the waitresses didn't do anything more than waitresses at other restaurants, yes they were in T-shirts (full ones, not cut off, tank tops like some wear) and I'm sure they played into the flirting with customers that sought that, but no more than most places.

As for being "Swarmed" I've not seen it happen, actually the last time I went my family was with me, and the waitress paid more attention to playing with the baby than anything sexual.
