I am using common sense, the common sense to not write these people off as blowhards and crazies just because they are public and vocal. History can teach us some lessons here. People are governed by consent. If the governing power loses that consent it is replaced with a new governing power. Sometimes this is a peaceful process, but more often than not it is by an open and popular rebellion. The steps leading from being governed to rebellion follow a pattern. The first step is discontent. When the governed become discontented with the governing powers they attempt to redress their grievances through whatever legal channels that may be open to them. The American Colonies pursued this course for 10 years prior to the American Revolution. If there is not a satisfactory resolution to their grievance the next step is public display and civil disobedience. The Boston Tea Party, and the demonstrations of the '60s and '70s are prime examples of this. If these two steps fail to produce the desired result then the final step will occur, open rebellion. An open rebellion with armed conflict between the governed and the governing power
Does it have to be this way? No. History shows us that where the governing power recognizes the grievance of the governed, and amends it's action, the rebellion does not have to occur. The Magna Carta Libertaturn is an example of this kind of result. Do I believe that the present government of the United States will recognize the grievance of it's people? No.
So I ask, are these people blowhards and crazies, or are they simply following a historical path?
