My peeve is that most hostess/hosts will try to seat me, a large person, in a tiny booth where the seat nor the table will move.
One would think that these people would know to place a large person at a table with a chair where one can slide in or out. But no...., if I don't specifiy "a table, please, not a booth," then to a booth they take me.
Daily, working in the food service sector, One would think they would pick up on these things.
Since my son-in-law used to be a server, I learned how inportant a tip is to these people, so I am a good tipper. If the service is good and the server is pleasent, I am a very liberal tipper.

I am not so big that this is much of an issue, but I had a friend who was a BIG man... 350 lbs.+ and very tall. We have talked about this issue before, and we determined that the servers, usually tiny, assume that the large people need extra space where the rear will engage the seat and worry that big folks will not fit on a chair! They think that the big, softer, wide bench of the booth would be easier on a large rear... and they don't realize that belly-to-table-edge is also critical.

Who's

Postby Dr. Ron » January 9th, 2008, 11:18 am

I hate booths and would fit into most of them. I just don't like that kind of seating.
I don't really understand why eating establishments use booths....they cost much more than tables and chairs and are far less practical.

Whatever, it's always service that matters to me. I can ask for a table....but get me something there pretty quickly!

I like booths. They are good for people with kids, because if you put the kid on the inside part of the seat, and you sit on the outside part, it traps 'em in there and they can't get out of their seat.

As a woman, and a very "blessed" one at that  I hate booths! If I sit at a booth there is the problem of certain body parts that tend to rest on the table, it's not the most comfortable situation. I choose not to sit at a booth, especially at ones that the table does not slide. We usually ask for a table.

As for large parties, we have found the best solution for us is to call ahead anytime we have a party of 6 or more. Usually the restaurant will have our table waiting already setup for us when we arrive. We find it prepares the restaurant, and makes our wait time much shorter.

Cats and FQ, on behalf of adult diners like myself I applaud you for having well behaved children when eating out. Nothing can ruin a night out for others than to have someone's kids screaming and running around.

Must be nice to rest on the table instead of being trapped underneath. :D

That cracked me up. Mine get trapped right at the edge so I hoist them puppies up and sit 'em on the table. They catch all my crumbs and spills but what's a girl to do? :P

Most establishments around here do not take reservations any more. well let me clarify, most franchise type eateries. I am sure that if you're paying upward of $50 a person you can et a seat reserved.

Luby's had the best set up. Chairs with wheels on commercial grade carpet. Rolled easily, plenty of table space, I loved it. Too bad they are one from the Nashville area. It was my favorite place to o hands down.

I can understand the frustrations this must cause. I must also state Full quiver is an awesome person and a great friend. As is Ilovebigcats!
Now the harsh and sad truth is some establishments dont mind many kids and others do. Mostly the upper end resturaunts do not want kids in there place. Not just many kids but would rather not have kids. You can usually tell if there is a changing table in the bathroom , if so they are cool with the concept if there is not , we are to take that as a hint. Ruths crisp steak house is supposed to be the best steak house, I have not tried it yet, but they really dont cater to familes but rather to those who are "fine dining" per say. I cant comlain about that because I have the choice to go with the kids and on certain occassions only go with my wife. I have found
Macaroni grill, max and ermas, cheese cake factory , california pizza kitchen to all be excepting of children. Max and ermas gives you coloring books and crayons when you are seated. Just a thought.

First, it is "Ruth's Chris" (not CRISP)   -- and second, it is pretty fine. I have been a few times as a guest of others, and took my wife once for a special night out. Even a thick, well done steak can almost be cut with just a fork. Pricey. I think each steak was $30-$50 range... just the steak. All menu items are ala carte, so even a couple of non-drinkers will end up with a $120-$150 dinner tab.

I have also eaten at Morton's, and have to say it is equal to, or better than, Ruth's Chris... and equally pricey.

If you are a steak lover, it is a taste of heaven.

Thank you Kevin! :D

I hear Morton's is the best but would love to try Ruth's Chris. It is pricey though.

We do not have either a Max or a Erma's Kevin.

PG, if you are ever in Fort Worth we'll treat to the Mercury Chop House! Better than Ruth's Chris!!! They have the best filet I have ever had, melted in my mouth!

PG I cant believe I mispelled that  I live down the road from the place. FQ it is "Max and erma's" if you live near nashville im sure they will have one soon. My wife likes the food I think it is ok.
Texas steakhouse is not as much as ruth's but is very good. 2 will still spend over $50 or more but it is good. I hear ruth's chris is much better though.

YellowRose, when the Assembly was in Texas, we used to eat at the top of some skyscraper (that has since closed I think) at a nice fancy place. I loved it, but I can't remember the name. Lunch prices were very reasonable.
