Do you mean:

Is God real and all powerful?

Or, do I ask God questions?

Let me share a story why I posted the question, and I so need help

Some of you may recall a few years back when my nephew was murdered. My sister has not healed from that, and I am not sure you can heal from something like that.

My dad on the other hand has told her she has to let it go, and move on that it was GOD'S WILL FOR HIM TO DIE.

So as you may can guess that caused a huge fight. Phoebe- asked dad was it God will for Josh to be killed ? with a gun put to his face and the trigger pulled--

Why was it God's will for him to die, when many prayed and the bible said where 2 or more are gathered in his name it shall be done, when many prayed for Josh that night, yet he still died

dad told her she had NO RIGHT TO QUESTION THE WILL OF THE LORD.

Dad told her she held Josh to high in her life as an idol (i disagree) that God took him from her.

This is the short version of my Friday night.

Your Dad

Postby scooter » February 15th, 2012, 6:12 am

Your Dad didn't use much sense in talking to your sister.

Everyone questions why things happen to some degree.

Why did God let my baby die? That's one of those tough questions.

My answer is that we put too much focus on the here and now.

Compared to eternity our lives are truly but as a vapor.

Whether we are 1 or 60 eternity matters more.

Bad things happen in this life because we live in a fallen world.

Christ is able to comfort your sister. We will be praying for her comfort.
What we need here is a good revival! lol

My dad is one of these people I am right, and everyone else is wrong.
My dad refuses to even think he could be wrong.
My kids hate to go over there -
sometimes i do not like going over there

Response: I bet. I would limit the exposure as much as is possible. That stuff is contagious.

Ditto what Scooter said in both posts.

I don't know if people even really believe what they themselves are saying sometimes. Or, if they are just that much in the dark about other peoples' pain. I do know this. Jesus is a high priest who is touched with the feeling of our weakness. Not just concerned for our good, but more deeply invested in our own feelings than we are. The hard part is that we do not see as He sees. And this goes to what Scooter said. He is eternal and His ways are higher and are not our ways or thoughts. I do not understand the mystery of how or why God chooses to end a human life when or how He chooses. Whatever evil lay behind your nephew's death, God is infinitely and supremely just and good and holy and right. The same power that makes Him so also comforts those who mourn and are afflicted, like your sister.

She cannot get over it. I seriously doubt your father, given his coarseness, has a spirit in him whereby he can speak for God in the matter. He really ought to just shut up and keep his opinions to himself until he can repent of pride and arrogance and presumptuousness and speak life and healing and comfort to his daughter.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

Penny, I am going to share something I have not shared on here before. I can relate to your situation. In 1978, a week after I had come home from college for summer break, my father was murdered. My father was a COGOP Pastor. I was the last family member to see him as I had left 15 minutes prior to play softball with my Aunt and other friends. Our neighbor, who was a minister in another denomination, shot and killed my father over a property dispute that the Court had ruled in favor of my father. Was that God's will? I do not think so. God gave us free will and we choose what we do and deal with the consequences. This man was tried and sent to prison. He, his wife and 2 daughters ended up being diagnosed with cancer. It killed him and his family suffered greatly. He died a slow painful death. About 7 years ago I was home visiting Mom and we went to a big Flea Market. We ran into this man's widow and daughters. I watched my Mom go hug the widow of the man who killed her husband. She told her she had heard about the cancer and had been praying for her. That day I witnessed true Godly forgiveness and let my pain go as well. Do we ever get over something like this? I think not. It just kind of blends into the person that we become afterwards with God's Grace. I hope this helped in some small way. Forgiveness frees us from pain.
To God be the Glory.

I'm going to state something radical here. If you wrap your mind around it. Ask the HOLY SPIRIT to reveal this truth to you... It will change you. Give you the peace you are searching for.

Basic Theology 101 under New Covenant.

God is Good as revealed by HIS SON. HE by a COVENANT of his OWN CHOICE can only do us GOOD! 100% Loving, Mercyful and Generous. 100% for you as a Parent to Child. Under the New Covenant we have with Him. Which was a restoration thru Jesus Christ to Abraham by belief only and not works. God loved us so much that He sent HIS only SON to die for us so we could be accepted. Jesus says, "The FATHER CONDEMNS NO ONE!". Jesus came to reveal that amazing truth of the Father. If you as a Child of God hear condemnation that is not your FATHER.

-verses-

Devil is BAD. He can't do GOOD, only Bad/EVIL. A limited intelligent withering vine. He's evil and loves to cause tragic harm and/or circumstances and LIES to US/EVERYONE that GOD is the cause. He's a deceiver. He loves to manipulate with a twisted appearance of GOOD and wreck havoc and evil. He is full of vitriol, hate, and anger and SEEKs to whom he can destroy and condemn. Jesus walked around ...DOING GOOD ( the Very BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY )... delivering all those oppressed by the devil. Wow.

As a result. We have no reason to FEAR GOD. Perfect LOVE casts out ALL FEAR. We have no reason to doubt God. It's the ENEMY that is causing harmful things and wants you to BLAME GOD. He is 100% for us. We have to understand that we live in a fallen world where bad things happen. But our GOD is larger than CIRCUMSTANCES! HE is bigger than problems to the fact that even if the enemy is successful in taking our LIFE. We are 100% in his loving arms as a Child of God.

A Fantastic Example is when the three Hebrew Children were thrown into the fire. God didn't put out the FIRE. They stood comfortably in the mist of it without a problem. If the fire would have been an issue... God would have be harmed by circumstances and could only deliver out of circumstances. Instead they were unfazed and HE doesn't measure success like that.

These are great questions you are having. Learn, Grow, and mature as a Child of God. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these truths in your life thru LOVE. He will because THAT is whom He is.

There is a difference in asking God honest questions from a desire to understand as opposed to challenging God's sovereignty with questions that are bred from unbelief, rejection, and bitterness.

The Bible is full of questions.

Rebekkah questioned God.

Genesis 25:22
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.

David questioned God many times.

Psalm 43:2 For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

As you mentioned Jesus even questioned God.

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Actually, God encourages us to ask of him.

Luke 11:9
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Questioning God has more to do with attitude and intent of heart than the act of asking God questions. If we do find ourselves in times of questioning God out of confusion, bitterness, or improper attitudes, he is a patient God and a forgiving God.

Blessings,
pa
