I pretty much read equally NIV, NASV, and NKJV (right now I'm carrying the NKJV with me all the time). Each seems to reflect a suggestion of cultural bias, so if I'm really trying to study a verse/verses I also reference NRSV, The Amplified Bible (and some others), plus a Hebrew/Greek literal translation. By far and away, my favorite study Bible is the Nelson Study Bible. I'm not very fond of NLT, The Message, etc., but I firmly believe that God speaks to us through all of them, if we will allow Him to. I used to work in a Christian Book Store, also, and several times listened to the 1611 KJV people only berate the store for spreading false teachings. The owner generally kept a contemporary copy of the 1611 under the counter, and he would pull it out and ask the speaker to find and read to him their favorite passages. Since it's written in Middle English, they, of course, wouldn't be able to find it--much less read it. He didn't do this to be mean (he was always a gentle, loving guy), but to try to help them actually see that what they were so smugly proclaiming probably wasn't accurate. I have often wondered if 1611'rs are aware that it included the Apocrapha (sp?)--I wonder what they think of the Book of Tobit? Oh, me--how the arrogance of some people inflames my own. Time to close and go ask God to please forgive me.
Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king (1Pet. 2:17; NIV).
